What vacuum is this that collapses when idle?

Hi guys,

I am wondering if someone can shed some light on what vacuum tube is this circled in red, and whether it should be collapsing under idle?

Full context: My mechanic discovered it was doing that while doing an inspection on a 996 Turbo I am thinking about buying. It's a 2001 running the EvoMS GT700 kit. Neither of us are well-versed in P-cars, so I thought I'd throw this up to see if anyone has any idea. Talking to another person he mentioned potentially somewhere in the PVC system is clogged up, but he isn't sure either.

Appreicate any feedback on this or if anyone has any general feedback on the EvoMS GT700 kit, that would be helpful as well!

That is the line that pulls a vacuum on the oil sump tank. there is a small hole in the fitting on the tank. the fitting also has breather lines that go to each turbo. it should not collapsing Try running the car with the oil cap off and see if the line still collapses.

Appreciate the advise, Tim!

As this was discovered when we were performing the PPI and we have returned the car back to the dealership, unfortunately we are not able to see if taking off the oil cap would help or not.

What is the worst that could happen then to cause the vaccum to be collapsing? Are you suspecting there is a clog in the system?

Thanks.

Why are you having a mechanic "not well versed in P cars" do the PPI????

Seems like a waste of effort, now you are casting about guessing at the root cause and ramifications....

My 2 cents.

I had the same issue on my old 01 tt. I replaced the hose and turns out it just got soft over time. The new hose didn't collapse and was much firmer comparing the two. Can't remember the part number but I remember it was cheap, just a pain to change.

That's a fair question. The said mechanic, while not well versed in P cars, is a good friend of mine and owns a shop that works on a lot of high power cars. So I feel I'll be able to trust him more as the advises from him will be coming from a friend rather than just a standard PPI report. Aside from this particular vacuum issue, he did call out a few other things which I found to be more valuable on making a decision.

Thanks!

Thanks! That's definitely a big possibility as well, while the hose itself looks fairly new, it does feel pretty soft compare to the others. Hopefully that's the culprit for us as well!
