Wiring Help - Vehicle Speed Sensor
Wiring Help - Vehicle Speed Sensor
Ok this is going to be a little more complicated (possibly)...
I need to find the actual sensor where the car picks up the vehicle speed from. I know the pinout from the DME, but I need the actual sensor/wires that gets this data.
Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

I have looked at the abs circuit and I was thinking of a computation of all four signals. But I also did a search into the OBDII manual and found that the rear right speed sensor is used for vehicle speed....Take a look at the picture. P0501 being the only fault in the OBDII manual in relation with vehicle speed....

has anyone here had issues or replaced the sensors? i'm getting intermittent cels and abs/psm lights. the code P0501 says it's the wheel speed sensor? if anyone knows. search function yields little. thanks.
Chances are its not your speed sensor. Most times (if not all times) it's the speed sensor harness. If you remove your tire it's the thick black wire that runs from behind your fender well to behind your brake disc(on top of your spindal) but do yourself a favor as sometimes this is a free fix and could possibly be your answer. Remove the 10mm bolt on the harness that holds it to the spindal and clean it and the bolt and the threads as well as the metal shaft that holds the harness to the spindal as it uses this point as a ground source and if it's dirty it won't make a good ground throwing codes.
It happened to me as I was getting abs failure lights combined with slight pedal pulsation at slow speed. Unfortunately I can't remember what my code was but doing this removed my problem and it hasn't come back.
Hope this helps.

greatly appreciated. that will be the first place i look. i recently replaced springs/wheels/tires ( and front pads ) and aligned the car... then the cels began.
an excellent place to start the search. thanks.

I come across this thread looking for the "Speed pulse" signal to connect to my JVC in-dash navigation/DVD unit for my 2006 997....
- Does anyone know if the info on P0501 on DME7.8 is application to a 06' 997?
- Do you think tapping this signal from the rear right wheel speed sensor to the "Speed pulse" input of the JVC will work ?
.
I did this in my 996 TT - the speed sensor wire is all over the place in the dash. There is no need to try to bring the signal all the way from the rear wheel. In the 996, the wire is Grey/Pink. If you had/had factory Nav, the signal wire will be on one of the plugs going to the head unit. Once I saw what it looked like, I noticed it many times while doing other wiring in the dash. If you can get a hold of the 997 wiring schematic for the radio, the colour code will be there - I can't say if it's the same colour as the 996.
Slider : to be honest i tried to find the radio wiring papers on websites but could not , all the speed sensor signals in the ECU did not work with my EBC HKS EVC6 , i have attached ecu pins PDF file .. just to be a usefull post

Assuming that is the correct sheet for your car, that would make pin 17 the winner (Connector IV - 4 th pin from the right on the second row up). This printout does not indicate the colour of the wire, but it is encouraging that it does say it is for the instrument panel. You could check the ECU connector and get the colour from there. Porsche is very consistent about using the same wire colour everywhere in the car for one specific task. Is that the wire you used?
1. Speed signal from ABS unit for front wheel (don't remember left or right)
2. Speed signal from ABS unit for right rear
3. Pin 17 of Connector IV (there was no wire on this pin so he even added a wire) Installer say he expected a yellow wire here
Nothing.....I am giving up now.....spent way too much time on this already....I will buy that "speed pulse generator" module from JVC and be done with it. Thanks for all your help.
