Springs

Since I NEVER track my car, I've been thinking of doing the springs to lower it down a little.

Are the springs adjustable or do you just get one height and hope it doesn't rub?

Is the ride horrible, or not bad at all? I have driven my buddies Gemballa with Gemballa coilovers and it's rides great. I was told it wouldn't ride worth a damn.

Lastly. What do the springs typically cost? Would you go with H&R or Eibach.............. or someone else?

Thanks!

Don't use H&R springs, they sag after time. I have techart springs on my Turbo S and had a set on my turbo cab. They are a great solution I think for those that don't track. Call Arling at Lucent and he'll hook you up with a set. Springs are not adjustable, however, the techart set-up have a teflon spacer so that the car doesn't sag etc.

If you are going to do it, do it right with coilovers that have the spring and shock/strut matched for their rates. W/o proper matching, your struts/shocks will wear prematurely.

As always, thanks Lou. Do you remember the price tag on the Techart springs?

I have researched the coilover route and as great as they are, I just don't "need" them. I don't want to drop $3,000+ just so I can eliminate wheel gap for 19's.

I just bought some HRE 841R's and I don't want them to look ridiculous until I can shave an inch or so off the gap. Although sometimes it looks ok depending on the color of the centers.

Call Arling at Lucent, he'll have the correct price. I think mid $500's, more than H&R which are like $230, but, I had a nightmare with H&R springs and have used the Techart ones twice with success. They eliminate the wheel gap and slightly improve handling. I think they are a great solution based on my driving habits and the aweful roads in Chicago. Installation or labor is less as well becuase the car just needs to be aligned with springs, and there is no messing with various adjustments or corner balancing

FWIW... I have H&R springs with no issues whatsoever.. .no sagging, etc. Ride height is fine and no problems going over bumps, etc. I take the car to Manhattan every now and then and I cant complain.

I can only comment on my issues with H&R springs, they were way too low, car couldn't be aligned, sagging in rear vs the front. Perhaps I got a bad batch, don't know, but, Arling told me he had seen this with H&R springs before. Glad yours are working out for you though

H&R and Eibach are the same ... there's usually two spring rates available. One is sort of a comfort rate(rides like OEM) and the other is a sport rated setup(a little stiffer but still softer than a GT3 or 2). Labor for install should not be over 4 hours.
