Newbie 996tt Owner 2003

Hey guys. I have been reading for a while and realize this is my first post.. But I did not see where to get this info..

I just bought a 2003 911 Turbo with 9000 miles on it. LOVE THE CAR! its my first Porsche

That said..

How do I find out if this car is an X50? Or if the chip set was changed.. any info would greatly help.

Also.. The guys here.. For or against Wheel spacers? Daily driver not a track car.

I consider myself very lucky to have found this car in my price range and plan on moving up in the world of Porsche.. But I must crack the books and learn more about them..

What an amazing machine.. I also have a 550i and used to think that was a nice car...

Thanks for the help

Congrats on the new to you car.

Look at the sticker on the bottom side of the hood. There it will list all the option codes. You could also go to your friendly porsche stealer and have them print it out for your vin.

Take the car out and floor it in 3rd or 4th gear. observe the boost gauge. if it reads .7-.8 it is stock. If it reads .9-1.0 it has a tune.

Happy motoring !!

The (cool to us) dry air makes my car Very Happy..

Wheel spacers are ok if needed for a DD. Better make sure your wheels are road-balanced though or you will get added vibration. Buy good Porsche specific spacers like H&R too.

If you are going to a 19" wheel - keep in mind the tires. They aren't easy to source right now. You need to keep the rotational balance in check front to rear. And at a height under 26". Not easy - not many choices...

Just spoke to the Service guys at German Excellence in Orlando Florida.

This guy was on the phone with me giving details about the car under his care for the last 5k. Nice people and on their game. Impressed, wish they were closer.

Not going to go with spaces or different rim size I have decided. But.. new tires will be a must as these are OEM. OMG... 10 year old tires will just not do..
Any favorite tires out there?

Thanks guys..

^So you bought Mark's car, didn't you? I don't know the guy personally but do know the guys at German Excellence, formerly known as Zötz Garage, as that is where I've been taking my cars for over 10 years. I was made aware of the car you bought today and, when the previous owner talked to me, he told me it sold a few days ago. The description I got from Donnie, the shop owner, was that it was "in showroom condition" and didn't even need a PPI since he had seen it a short while ago and was in fine shape.

Congratulations! It seems to be an awesome car! Enjoy in good health!

Yes it was Marks Car out of what seemed to be a nice collection of barely used cars.

I have a guy that hunts down vehicles for me and friends of mine. You may want to give him a call he can find ANYTHING>. Marks car had just gone on the market when my guy jumped on it and made this sweetheart deal happen for me. he was looking for 6 months for the right car perimeters that I had set and BAM there it is.

For those that have Pmed me the Forum here will not let me respond till I reach 15 posts.. Then I will answer..

I have put 1000 miles on it getting used to it as it is my first one.

Showroom it is. This car had one scratch on it on the bumper which is no longer there, piece of cake. Waxed it up and its a real gem.

As I said earlier I was very impressed with German Excellence in Orlando Florida. they owed me nothing but helped me in huge ways. Spoke to Don and his assistant all were very nice people and super knowledgable and patient for all my stupid newbie questions.. I am hopping to be able to continue using them to pamper this car.

First things first.. New tires..

sounds like you have what is essentially a "new" car. congrats! often times you'll find with very low mileage cars that seals and accumulators etc and some of the peculiarities and things on "the list" these cars are known for needing to be replaced ( a lot ) haven't had a chance to develop ( or be noticed yet ). this again, is esp true with cars that have been garaged ( or not driven regularly ). i'm sure having done your due diligence, you know what to keep an eye out for..

so, drive 'er in good health.. and.. put some MILES on it!
