Appraisal: '02 X50
Appraisal: '02 X50
Hi, I have been lurking these forums for quite some time and the stars have seemed to align for me to own my first Porsche. Before I pull the trigger, I would like opinion on what this car would be worth:
2002 996 TT with X50 package (factory installed), Seal Gray , 77k miles
Bilstein PSS9
Tubi exhaust
Chip - Sharkwerks/EVOMS
Short shift kit
Recent brakes / rotors + master cylinder
All service records and reciepts, new clucth 35k miles ago, paint is 7/10 with all original paint and body. Only problem is the spoiler. What would be the ballpark worth of this car?

I'd take a guess at $43-$50. Ultimately it depends on what you are willing to pay. To me, 1 or 2 owners with meticulous records is worth a few grand premium. While some say mods have no value - I'd ante up a little for good mods that you would likely do anyway (assuming the previous owners did not do a Frankenstein job).
So if bone stock with good maintenance is $40k...I'd be in the range above if all checks out. Honestly, I don't see mileage as a huge factor...I'd prefer to see an '02 between 50-60k miles - so you may use the 78k miles as a negotiating item to bring you closer to $43k.
The thing I noticed during my search is that there is alot of crap out there either with stories or no history whatsoever. If you find the right combo - jump on it.

thanks. I agree with your assessment. This car has 3 owners (I would be 4th), and the current owner has owned it since 20k miles, with all service records and reciepts for mods.
yeh i agree...i refrained from commenting earlier. but i paid $42 for my bone stock 02 with 27,000 miles 2 years ago.
thats a ton of miles in my opinion. i personally wouldn't buy a car with that many miles but if i had to value this one based on short list of options i wouldn't pay more than $38K tops!! the miles really knocks it down i think. you don't need the x50 and really the only thing you are getting is the K24 turbos which many don't prefer anyway. id keep looking...but thats me

Well...that could be...I did get a good deal, but those deals are out there. Only 31k miles now. Unfortunately for us owners it's a buyers market and has been for a while.
The guy I bought from allegedly had lost his job..who knows. The trick is finding a good car that really needs to be sold.

The car I bought was a slate grey 2004 X50 with 12,000 miles, and the dealership gave the former owner $43k for it on trade in for an Aston Martin DB9. Let's just say they made a pretty penny on him and myself.
According to NADA it's worth $32-$38K if it's a clean car, no body work, everything works, books, manuals, keys, no issues, good tires, clean interior. Good wheels, no dings or dents or scrapes. You can add what the X50 is worth to you, I'd add nothing or up to $1K depending on my mood. Other options are a + or - depending upon the would be buyer. Generally a - for P dealers. Most buyers will pay more for a totally stock appearing clean example. Many young owners will pay more for modded cars. PSS9s several years old may be a liability, as is an exhaust that drones.
So if I was in the market and the car was clean as stated above, passed a PPI, looked great, drove well, and most importantly is a car that spoke to me I'd be in at around $34K.

not sure if it works this way everywhere but wont he get taxed on the sale and then taxed on the purchase of whatever he buys whereas if he traded it in he would only get taxed on the difference ?
so he may be getting the same amount for the car buit he will be paying quite a bit more in taxes
