Sorry I am dragging my backside and have not put my motor back in yet.

Just installed the OS Giken LSD in my car today and love it. I've heard the OS Giken diffs run much cooler than all the others out there even the factory ones so I'm keeping my fingers crossed no coolers will be needed.

How could you love it already, have you had a chance to test it yet? Some launches, a little sideways action on the street? Went to the track?

Wow never heard anyone associate a tranny cooler with an LSD... definitely food for thought... but Porsche and other manufacturers do make LSDs without tranny coolers no?

I heard that 996T in Europe had a factory LSD option... not sure if it came with cooler

Yes actually. Sideways action on the street, hard accelerations and braking. Car is more stable in all respects as I can see so far. All the sports cars I've owned all had lsd's in them. The turbo was my first open diff Car and is definitely the most powerful by far. Although I could get it sideways with the open diff you can def tell one wheel pulling harder than the other. Again yes I love it with just about 100 miles on it.

Is there a DIY out there for a diff install or is it a shop install only?

Ok, that makes sense, it is great when you feel it pulling you out of the slides.

I think it depends on the level of use/abuse. Any hard track use could definately justify a tranny cooler install regardless of LSD or not IMHO. If you drive mostly street with an LSD, I would think it to be overkill. But I do not build these gearboxes so I would love to hear an expert's thoughts.

One thing that would lead me to think it is a good idea, is the all of the GT2s and GT3s have them factory.

Did you do the install or did you have a shop do it?

All GT2/3s come with LSDs and a cooler standard. Spoke with a number of race shops including Gbox and they all highly recommend gearbox coolers for any cars driven hard on the track, especially if you are adding heat to the box via an LSD. An LSD consists of friction plates which will raise temps of your gearbox. If you are just doing street stuff than it's probably not crucial but cooling the gearbox on the track will go a long ways to prolonging its life.

I've thought about doing the OS Giken but hearing about several of them basically disintegrating in the 996tt has scared me away from it. Keep us posted how yours works out...

I had both, AWD and RWD (shaft removed) later to install Carbonetics LSD and remove all the front diff components. (60+lbs)

As stated in pervious posts, with addition to front camber, 996 with the proper LSD, alignment and more front camber is a track monster (when driven properly).

I experienced all 3 setups on the track and it's a night and day difference from AWD.

If your plans are not to track, keep the AWD for resale and safety but if you hit the track and know how to drive, there is no substitute when properly RWD converted.

Well I did mine yesterday afternoon driven 150 miles drove hard and put away wet LOL, no PSM, breakes lose very predictably feels a bit faster, tons of fun going to install a 997 cup car LSD in the next 2 weeks. I was worried about taking the drive shafts part but just opened the boot , opened the cir clip and pulled the ends off it took 5 min for each axel.

It didn't get rid of my noise in front time for new bearings)

I have yet to remove my front diff. Just the shafts. What was involved in removing the front diff?
