AC auto ON??

I have an 02 TT and my AC just randomly cuts on sometimes at start. Now I assumed it was because Porsche was awesome and cut it on only when the exterior or interior temperature is above a certain level.....

BUT my does it during winter or summer.... Any one with knowledge care to share some??

Never experienced the A/C switching to auto at random times with my 03 Turbo. I have experienced the stereo zombie mode. The thing lights up when the on button is pressed, the buttons all work, just no sound.

In this state the only 'fix' is to turn the engine off, key off and wait 3 minutes for the car to power down and this 'fixes' the stereo.

Another symptom is the engine starts, the radio comes on and is in FM mode, and on a station I have not programmed into any channel select button.

The radio works just fine though I have to switch the radio to AM and then punch the station select button for the station I want.

What I hear is this is a known problem (I had a Cayenne owner tell me he's seen the same behaviour in his Cayenne) which can be fixed by updating the firmware (software) in the instrument/comfort controller.

This firmware update might fix the A/C symptom you report though before I paid to have this applied to the car I'd want some assurance it would, cause I suspect the update is not cheap.

There are other possible causes... have you checked for any signs of dampness in the car? Checked for any signs of water leaks around the windshield? Are the body water drains clear? Any chance mice have been in the car?

Sincerely,

Macster.

Actually, I believe you don't have to wait the 3 minutes. Just use the remote to lock and then unlock the doors (after you've shut down the engine and removed the key). This also causes the car to power down. At least that worked for me the few times this has happened with the stereo.

On the A/C, I have noticed that it turns out automatically when you are press recirculation. I can then shut the A/C off, but it will come back on by itself as long as you have the recirculation on. I assume this is just the car trying to be too smart (like defrost). Personally, I'd prefer it if the car just let me set the settings the way I want them.

Mine does the exact same thing sometimes. When I start the car and look down I see the "snowflake" and just reach up and turn it off. It seems to do this every 10th start or so. Always thought it was normal for some weird reason.

Same here...mine is an 01. I try to drive with the AC off as much as possible, but every so often, the snowflake comes back on. So I don't bother turning it off anymore since I figure Porsche engineers want the system on all the time.
