Hi all, starting to look for a 996tt. I live in the SF Bay Area and have seen this advertised around (Ebay, Craigslist, and Auto Trader). It's up in Reno for sale.

Any of you familiar with the car? The current owner seems to be very straightforward and honest about the car. It seems nicely modded and well maintained. It appears that work has been done at Reno Rennsport and Sharkwerks. The price seems pretty good as well.

Also, does anyone know if the listed mods are California Smog Legal? It has a boost controller on the center console, that's probably a huge DMV flag, and assuming its a 50 state legal car.

I've been a lurker for awhile, just picking up as much information on the 996tt as possible. Haven't had a need to post with most of my questions answered so far off the forum, but seeing this for sale has piqued my interest.

Any information/suggestions/opinions are greatly welcomed.

I'd want to check out the accident history a little more and make sure it's as minor as stated. I wouldn't worry so much about the smog as long as the car will pass the smog test when you register the car (should be a condition of the sale). Technically, the mods may not be CA smog legal, but you can easily find a shop that won't notice the mods and will focus on the results from the test machine.

 

I'm not familiar with that car but I'm local to the Bay Area and am selling my 996TT. Not sure what your budget is but figured I'd let you know in case you are interested. I don't have a listing up yet but the pic is below. It's a 2 owner 2001 with no stories at all and has more mods and less miles than the one above. That eBay ad is pretty entertaining since the seller goes on a rant comparing the 993 to the 996, and then goes on to talk about how the Mezger GT1 based engine is even better than the newer 9A1 derived motor too!
