Squeeking Clutch

I have been told by friends here that it is not a big deal but figured I would ask the real "experts"
For about a week or 2 now my clutch as been "squeeking" when I press it in. It does it almost every time it is pushed it, but somtimes it does not... The squeeking is coming from under the car as far as I can tell not from the actuall pedal... Like I said I have been told it is no big deal, but want to double check...

Also spotted some brown fluid on the garage floor towards the front of the car....looks like oil, but oil and engine are in back so kinda wondering what it is....
Thanks guys,
Evan

the differentail sometimes leaks on these things (the front oil spot)....I am not sure if you should get it checked or not but on my 99 C4 I had a cracked differential case!!!

I notice that my cluth is squeey at times too. Usually, after driving in stop and go traffic in the morning.

People on rennlist have pointed me to some TSBs, but my dealer says it's normal...GO Figure...my dealer thinks any noise is normal.

It sounds as like it might be a throw out bearing on your clutch making the squeek. Common on the BMW M5. If the dealer says it is normal then maybe it is common to all 996TTs?

The squeak has nothing to do with the tranny, throw out bearing or diff. The squeak eminates from the pedal linkage. My Bosxter and Turbo both squeaked. Simple lube fix at the dealer.

Thanks guys...I guess I will just live with the squeak of the clutch. The spot on the floor was VERY small, I cleaned it up, if it comes back I will bring it in...

Listen to Bob. If the noise sounds something like an old screen door closing (spring creaking/stretching sound), the pedal assembly needs a "lube" job -- it's a very easy dealer fix. The noise has nothing to do with the spot on the floor -- that could be a whole different "can of worms".
