Replacing 996t Power Steering Pump

Guys,

I need to replace my pump, any other advice I need to know before attempting the job other than this post?

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ir-change.html

The rebleed looks pretty straight forward for the power steering system. The clutch isn't hooked in to this in anyway is it?

The clutch slave cylinder is hooked up to the steering pump but you don't have to bleed the slave. Slave got two internal pistons one for the assist which got pressure from the steering pump and one from the clutch pedal. They are both independent. The only bleeding required is done by moving the steering wheel from stop to stop several times (repair manual page 305) ...Be careful with the red colar for the hydraulic lines removal. Be sure you press them in properly before attempting to pull the lines out.

I am hoping that he dealer has diagnosed it correctly as the pump and it isn't the reservoir.

Did he mention why he need to replace the pump?

Apparently stethescoped it and said it was coming from the pump. He then disconnected the main belt and started the car and the noise disappeared.

When I read the TSB4897 my car doesn't have the high pitch noise when hot and I don't recall it going away when I put my foot on the clutch. I do get a high pitch noise for about 20 seconds when I start it from cold, it sounds like a loud electric pump whirring but then goes out. It may not be related, but the power steering also feels fine.

Hummm....Having the belt disconnected can also mean one of the pulleys was at fault...I don't remember seeing anyone replacing the steering pump because of being noisy on a TT but often the serpentine belt tensioner is at fault....

The belt tensioner is right next to the PS, a little to the left and lower. My tech diagnosed my pump as bad, but it turned out to be the belt tensioner. Have your guy double check before spending on the pump. He should remove the air box to gain access and to tell the difference between the sounds coming from the 2 componants.

Yes, they specifically checked the pulleys and said they were fine.

Without starting another thread, I have the same high pitched noise when the car is warm. Def coming from pump area and goes away when clutch is depressed and comes back when released. Possible pump or res? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not cool driving a Porsche with a noise as loud as that coming from rear of the car. Sounds like my old race car with its Bosch 044 running lol.

The reservoir has a valve in it that goes bad = replace. Of course check belts/pulleys first.

Thanks. Do you know or anyone else if Porsche designed a better res or perhaps the best place to source another one? Part#?

red330I is infamous around these parts
My reservoir is starting to whistle. When the valve goes bad can it cause any damage to any other components in the car? Or is it just a matter of dealing with the whistle?

Just trying to figure out if it's something that should be replaced immediately.
