Just Bought - Now help diagnose problems/questions galore
I did 700 miles today and 350 yesterday picking up the '02 Speed Yellow from board member Almo. I'm trying to figure out a few things on the car and see what is broken/busted/inop/(or I don't know what i'm doing) to give it some TLC. Feel free to respond to any/all of the following questions.
- Side mirrors (both passenger and drivers side) will change positions after drivers door is opened/shut with car off (ie at gas stops) about 50% of the time.
- Passenger door window makes a horrendous amount of wind noise at speed (70mph+). I tried the reset technique (10 seconds held in up and down positions) with no fix. I ended up putting two layers of painters tape ontop of the window then closing the window again seemed to have a big impact so i'm thinking the window is too low and needs adjustment?
- Cruise control stalk doesn't seem to function at all. in/out/front/back/button on side holding/pushing and combinations of everything have no affect and certainly doesn't activate the cruise? Busted? Or am I doing something wrong?
- What do the two yellow diodes on next to the navi disc insert mean? The system seems to make some kind of whirring every minute or so as if it's looking for the disc (as none is inserted or was provided).
- The car has a B&M SS which sucks monkey ***** but the shift **** is able to be pulled vertically 3-4mm freely - is there any adjustment/fix to tighten it down (it's the stock carbon one) or is this part of the B&M fail boat?
- What does the red light on the door lock light mean? Locked?
- Can you put a cd into the dash navi disc compartment or only through the 6-disc in the trunk?
- Is there a quick way to turn the a/c and blower fan off or is it only done through pressing the +/- buttons until you drop below the lowest setting?
- I have sport seats and a college degree and for the life of me I can't figure out how to access the backseats. (or what's left of them with the RSS rollbar installed).
- Is it common to have meth heads stop you in the middle of a two lane road with no shoes on, foaming at the mouth screaming "please help me god I didn't do anything wrong" and proceed to try and break into your car?
ok so the last one was just one of the many weird and frightful things on my 1200 mile journey home.
Thank you for your help gents. I know this is a lot of stupid questions but any help would be appreciated!

. Turning the A/C off is easy and can be done by just pushing the little star button. The fan can only be turned off by pushing the - button until you see OFF in the display (as far as I know).
You know I think that's it. Drivers side drops, passenger doesn't. Anyone know how to unstick or reset it or does it require some massively expensive part?

----- May need adjustment or if it doesn't drop when opening door, may need to reset and/or the microswitch in the door latch is broke. Just had to replace the door latch on my drivers side - window wouldn't go down when opening/closing.
- Cruise control stalk doesn't seem to function at all. in/out/front/back/button on side holding/pushing and combinations of everything have no affect and certainly doesn't activate the cruise? Busted? Or am I doing something wrong?
----- Try taking your foot and pulling UP on the clutch pedal (assuming it is a manual) - there is a switch and if the pedal isn't all the way up, the cruise will do nothing.
- What do the two yellow diodes on next to the navi disc insert mean? The system seems to make some kind of whirring every minute or so as if it's looking for the disc (as none is inserted or was provided).
----- Not sure about the LEDs but mine made the same noise every minute! I just took it out and put in one of the storage compartments!
- Can you put a cd into the dash navi disc compartment or only through the 6-disc in the trunk?
----- I don't think the navi CD does audio - but I never tried.
- I have sport seats and a college degree and for the life of me I can't figure out how to access the backseats. (or what's left of them with the RSS rollbar installed).
---- I don't have sport seats but on the side of the head rest part of the seat should be some levers - lift up on then and pull seat back forward.
Congrats on the car!!!

First off - thank you for the input thus far it has been greatly appreciated.
I have resolved/figured out fixes for everything (I think - I am adjusting the widows this weekend and will update based on this thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...sign-flaw.html) except the side view mirrors.
I think it is related somehow with the locking of the car. Each time I lock the car and get back in and start it both the driver and passenger side mirrors reset their positions. It is extremely annoying.
Would this be related to any setting in the auto dimming rear view mirror or seat memory or anything like that? Stopping for gas without locking the doors didn't seem to cause the issue.
Also - the drivers side door handle has to be pulled twice to get it to actually open. Is there a way to adjust/reset this so one pull will unlatch the door (from the inside)? *edit* - (Or is this the autolock feature? My car does lock at 5mph)

You need to do the seat reset to save the position of the seats, and mirrors. Make sure you have the shifter in reverse if you want the mirror to go down when you put the car in reverse. The reset can be done with - either the fob or the seat memory button - or both. The entire procedure is in the owner's manual. I can post it here if you don't have it...
The inside door handle is cable driven. You would have to remove the panel to get to it. I suspect the plastic clip was not properly anchored the last time the panel was removed. You will see it when you take the panel off. It is at the top of the door - a white plastic clip - hard to miss. That part is not adjustable. I will find the door panel removal thread and post a link when I get home...

It is one of those stupid auto lock features. Don't worry it can be disabled by a porsche mechanic with the porsche system tester. You may be able to do it yourself if you have a durametric cable but I've never tried.
The mirrors were indeed a seat memory function... fixed!
Does anyone else have the FM radio come in ever so quietly when the navigation is off? (Like quiet to the point you wouldn't be able to hear with the car turned on but with it turned off the radio is playing in the background?)

Just to update for future searchers:
Window wind noise was fixed following the adjustments found in this thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...sign-flaw.html
The double unlock is a autolock feature and i'm getting it disabled at the dealer this coming week.
One last thing... the car since I got it has had intermittent failures to crank over at all. I put the key in, car in neutral, e-brake on, clutch depressed and it won't even allow the key to go to the start/crank position. Each time simply by cycling the key and pumping the clutch pedal again has rectified the situation but i'm wondering if there is some kind of clutch pedal sensor that might be going out that is causing both this issue starting and the cruise control to work.
Anyone have ideas?

there's a microswitch underneath the clutch pedal, requiring us to engage the clutch to start the car. they can sometimes come loose or have a bad connection. also, can be disabled very easily i'm told. a diy exists and it's a 5 min job, iirc.
i would begin your search for an answer there, behind the clutch pedal. GL. btw.. when your trip ends.. pm me if ya still need that wing kit.
It sounds like two issues... The clutch pedal switch would not stop the key from turning. That is probably just a matter of turning the steering wheel to take the pressure off the lock mechanism. I haven't heard of anyone having to replace the mechanism because the key wouldn't turn.
sounds right. missed the bit about the key won't turn. sometimes it is that simple.
