Clearing "readiness codes" for SMOG- help please
Hi All,
I am in the process of SMOGing my car and have passed visual/sniff but I have two readiness codes that have not cleared yet: Oxygen Sensor Heater Monitoring and Catalyst Monitoring.
I had the battery out ~600 miles ago for a rollbar so I may just need to find more readiness drive time, but am under the gun as my plates expire end of the month. FYI- I'm running a new Speedtech 3.0 with 100cel cats and a K16 1Bar flash from EPL that I purchased in 2009. No other engine/intake mods and still running stock airfilter.
Have also read how this could be tied to a flash, but unclear if I have this issue or not. I have tried to reach out to TonyEPL but he is on vacation this week.
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

i think you can pay DMV first and then get smog afterwards. this way, you won't have any penalty. otherwise, you can pay the non op fee first until you get the smog sorted out. either way, you won't be able to drive until it's renewed again.

Seems like its in the program... Im sure EPl will take care of it...

Here is the procedure to bring MIL status to readiness.
However, as others have suggested, some aftermarket "flash" tunes disengage some of the emissions systems and this will preclude the vehicle from reaching a completed readiness status.
I just went through discovering all of this myself over the last 24 hours. I had the same exact issue as you, however, I believe my car has the stock tune. This worked for me.
Drive cycle procedure:
Start engine, let idle for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.
Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.
Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.
Decelerate and come to a stop. Then:
Idle in Neutral for 5 mins. (manual trans.)
Idle in Drive for 5 mins. (Tiptronic trans.)
During the drive cycle, do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph.
Good luck.

It passed smog two years ago with a Miltek system and same tune... Wonder if the new exhaust makes a difference??
Not having any luck reaching EPL (phone in their website is down, emls aren't being answere, nor are PMs). Anyone have a good umber to reach Tony or his team?
Good idea on Pre-pay to avoid late fees, but am a bit stuck here.

does CA allow ONE or TWO readiness codes "not ready?"
I know that it used to be 2, but it may have changed. I faield in the past due to a dead batt and al readiness states were out of status.
Have you tried the "readiness" drive? - It worked for me last time.

That will work...eventually, but it will take longer than following the instructions I posted.
The cpu requires the miles to be driven in a certain manner over a specified time frame, as I've already outlined in detail above.

Been stuck out in the East Coast the last few days- bit of weather out there!
Dave (EPL) has set me up with a revised flash and my cable should be here by Tuesday. In the meantime I will keep plugging away at "readiness" miles to see if this clears it aged of the new flash install early next week.

I ran several of the "readiness" drives over the weekend and it never cleared either of the two open indicators. Dave(EPL) came through and sent me a new Cali-91 file and a Flash cable and within 15miles of easy driving one of the indicators went green. I was finally able to bring it in for SMOG and it passed with flying colors including the readiness sensors.
Big shout out to Dave at EPL for coming through with a revised flash program and cable on such a short notice all while Tony was out on vacation. Paid my registration and am legal again for another 2 years.
You are a superstar Dave!
