Passenger Door Will Not Close

I had the door apart on my 996 turbo. After putting it all back together I cannot get the door to close. It is like the latch does not want to engage. All the other electronics appear to be working (locks, windows etc.). Has this happened to anyone else? Am I missing something silly?

Thanks in advance!!

Danny

Look at the latch mechanism... If the latch is already closed, you need to open it before you can close the door. If the latch is actually open as it should be and does not latch when you close the door, you probably have to adjust the bar on the door frame to move it closer to the outside (door side) to allow the latch to close far enough to lock.

Thanks for the reply!

I have tried all of the above. I am stumped.

Well then, more info is required... Does the door make a clunk when you try to close it - preventing it from completely closing, or does the door close properly but does not latch? Are you able to manually latch and unlatch the latching mechanism with your finger?

You probably covered this one but is the window dropping?

The door closes all the way shut. But the latch won't lock in place. I tried locking it manually with a screw driver without any luck.

Window works fine.

Thanks!

Ajs76 is infamous around these parts
At the risk of giving really bad advice, this happens every so often with my old M3. If you grease the latch with wd-40 or chain lube, it fixes the problem.

Note: Not responsible if that totally doesn't work here

If the latch will not lock when closed with a screwdriver and you can't see any problem with it, you need a new latch. AutoPartsWay.ca has them for $200.
