Lag of the RUF K24 hybrids is minimal probably due to the larger intake manifold and intake pipes that are used along with the reworked waste gates. I've compared it side by side to a friend's K16/UMW car and I was able to get a jump on him right away and pull away pretty easily. At my local track on the long straight I've easily been able to reel in every Ferrari I've run with including an F430 and the new F458, and basically every ZO6 or Porsche I've run with. Of course you rarely ever see any mega hp cars at the track like some of the cars that guys own here. The one car I was basically dead even with was a 2011 ZR1 which I think has around 620 hp and thus leads me to believe that the RUF rating of 550 is fairly conservative. I do run a mix of 100 octane at the track and the car is RWD with LSD and about 180 lbs lighter than a stock 996tt for what it's worth. The one negative is that all the RUF stuff is pricey. When I bought my car the previous owner spent over $60K on the top to bottom RUF Rturbo conversion and I have to say it works together very well. Driveability is superb. Pretty much the way Porsche should have built it. You're gonna like it Al....
Agreed. The EPL tune that the car currently has is actually spot on. I couldn't ask for more for from a tune + exhaust only setup. The car already flies and was unable to be beat by a friends stock 05 Murc. I have friends that have done the old school K24\18g setups and loved them and those are laggy too. I like the RUF turbo\tune offering because other RUF owners seem to really enjoy the power that they make.

Sharp looking car ; )
I have been doing some research on the K24 18G or 20G and what I have gathered so far is that with the new billet lightweight wheels, extended tip, etc. the spool isn't as much as the regular wheels. I have decided to try out the 20G and am looking forward to seeing the difference in person. I will do some testing on the road and dyno and try to gather some info to share with everybody. I guess you can go with the RUF packaged but can still do the 20G turbos, right? Visually it would look Ruf but with a bigger punch.
What comes with the Ruf 550 package?

You can not package other turbos with the RUF 550 kit. It is sold as a package and designed to work together. The 550 Rturbo kit includes the following:

RUF K24 hybrid turbos

RUF wastegates

RUF exhaust with 100 cell cats

RUF Intake manifold (the 996tt fuel filter must be relocated due to the larger size of the intake)

RUF Turbo intake pipes

RUF 1.2 bar ECU (the ECU is write protected from RUF so that it can not be reflashed or accidentally overwritten. It is designed for RON 98 fuel so a minimum of 93 octane here in the states)

Sachs stage 2.5 clutch kit

BMC air filter

Why do they call it Ruf 550?? Shouldn't that be Ruf 650? Seems to me it should make more power than 550 unless they mean to the ground, at the wheels, but usually companies call their packages with what the flywheel power is expected or measured to be. So I thought...

No, it doesn't make anywhere near 650. RUF has, however, always been very conservative in their quoted numbers. Supposedly, according to RUF, 550 is the minimum the kit is supposed to make when taking into consideration that there is a variance in the relative power output of engines. So in other words, 550 should be the worst case number the weakest engine should still make. As a result, most engines will probably be a little above that 550 hp mark. By how much, who knows? The idea behind RUF is that they are a manufacturer and not a tuner and as such the cars are built with durability, reliability and drivability in mind as opposed to the highest horsepower. When they sell a car it comes with a warranty and as such durability has to be at the top of the list. An example of this is the fact that they put titanium connecting rods in their 590 kit which most tuners here stateside won't do until well over the 700 hp mark. I don't think there is any secret to their engine kits except that all the components are engineered to work together as a system, exceed OE Porsche drivability, and provide good solid reliable power. These days, there are also many good tuners here stateside that will do the same if you stick with their kits. I think where a lot of guys go wrong is that they start throwing a ton of aftermarket stuff made by a bunch of different manufactures relying on huge HP claims and then they wonder why intake X does not work with part Y and part Z. Every aftermarket manufacturer will claim a HP increase with their product but those increases are not necessarily cumulative and sometimes may even be detrimental.

Lets everybody chip in Tree Fiddy $3.50 for the dyno run.
How much does a few dyno runs cost anyway,,, 100-125?
Joking aside, that would be nice to see.
We should start a thread where dyno their cars with specific upgrades like Ruf 550, Evoms 650, etc., etc. at a specific boost or a couple of boost levels, 1bar, 1.2, 1.3 where we can all run safely on pump gas and see what kind of numbers we get. No cheating though!!! On pump gas or if you are running meth, you have to disclose it. Would not be fare to run race gas and a ton of timing.
What do you guys say? Should we start a thread like that??

I've never dynoed a car so correct me if I'm wrong but there is way too much variance in different dynos to make any comparisons meaningful unless you are comparing various set ups on the same dyno under the same atmospheric conditions. I'm more of a stop watch guy as I've never really been concerned with power numbers but rather with what it takes to make a car go quicker around a road course. Power is just one variable there and certainly not the most important one. Properly set up brakes, suspension and LSD are much more important in making an overall quick car, not just a fast one.

I agree but stopwatch can be a little off too. Jumpy fingers unless you have data logging.
I would say the best way would be those Dyna Packs where they bolt the dynos right to the car. That way tire size, compound, traction, etc would not change the output. I am sure we can all find local shops with the Dyna Packs.
I think it would be nice to see all the setups and the power outputs : )

RUF cars are very special cars.. LOVE your R-Turbo, congrats...

FYI, or for anyone.. There has been debate on RUF's power ratings, them being 'underrated' etc..

All I know is, just not even 2 weeks ago I was pulling 1000cc bikes on the highway, and pulled a 640 whp GTR that ran mid to low 10's at PBIR drag event, with tons of witnesses !!

Suffice to say, my car is an absolute freak !

I wanted to post an update as the car is about to go up for sale in the car sales section. I've enjoyed making it just about perfect in every way. It's a true one of a kind.
