$3.00 fixed wing kit
#18
I ran without my wing for for about 5 years including a run up to an indicated 167 mph with no ill handling effects. Then, I got tired of looking at the wing in the garage and put it back on in the raised position. I think my choice would be no wing and some really nice hole covers. I still a complete hydraulic kit in working order, but have left it off and will put it on when I sell the car.

Damn right it's not a Honda... If it was a Honda, it wouldn't be an overly complex hydraulic ram that costs several thousand to repair when a seal fails.
I love my turbo, but certain things Porsche doesn't seem to get right. On the 996 Turbo, the hydraulic wing actuators and hydraulic assisted clutch are two perfect examples... Simple seals fail, are not replaceable, and result in quite large repair bills.

^ true enough pfbz, it's a rube goldberg setup to be sure.. but, rigorous maintenance of the existing hydraulics while relatively "labor intensive" will ( or have in my case ) result in years of continuing operation. I find one needs to ensure that no dirt or residue remains on the rams, impeding the unobstructed moment of them, coupled with occasional re-bleeds.
I just found my pre-emtptively purchased $100 "fixed wing kit bag 'o bolts" i bought on eBay about 8 years ago, and thankfully ( STILL ) haven't needed 'em!

Hey 02996ttx50, I was looking at that kit. Is it worth buying? If that's the same one from the guy in Tampa, it's on for $170 for the longer kit and $150 for the standard. Alternatively the ebwerks kit that stebo mentioned looks pretty sharp.
Personally I don't much care about the tail going up and down, especially if I can put the same money towards more beneficial goodies.

add: i got the kit so long ago it was only 140 LOL. all that said, i am actually getting tired also of the continual up/down as my brief freeway runs cause it to deploy about 10X per run. The novelty has *finally* worn off. and this is my 4th 911 with a deployable spoiler. IIRC the OP of this thread made basically the same kit as the tampa guy for a few bucks. maybe the DIY is uphthread?
GL whichever way you decide to go.
