Fule Pressure Regulator preventative maintenance
Many as well as myself have much invested in our cars with enjoyment over many years during ownership.
So like we change the oil I thought to reach out to other experienced tuners on Fuel Pressure Regulator experience and their thoughts on preventative maintenance and replacement direction.
I have read many threads here on FPR and its part in the “Fuel Eco System”. This thread is for a car that is running fine with preventative maintenance in mind.
Fuel pressure regulator discussion
1. Do we wait for it to fail ? Perhaps just swap it out… yes no… ??
2. If stock Do we use the 3.8 ?
3. I have a 1 bar tune and running stock 3.8 for years. Hence brings up a good question. Did I over look this ? What are best next steps.
3a. replace with 3.8 bar :
Pro – getting out in front of potential failure due to age and install a new one.
Con - maintenance cost
3b. replace with 5 bar :
Pro – getting out in front of potential failure due to age and install a new one. Replace 3.8 with 5 bar.
Con - maintenance cost
Con – will it run rich ?
Con - Is this a bad idea ?
4. For the garage DIY mechanic that does not have all the gauges. We know that when we increase Boost we need more fuel .
Do we make this change ourselves without checking the air to fuel ratio or leave it to the tuner ?

I have a 1.2 tune w/ bolt ons and have run the 5.0 for YEARS without needing to swap it out.
As we know it just "tricks" the system but it continues to keep me fooled and I see no reason to pre-emptively change it. It's not like a fuel filter which I'm sure folks neglect.
