The other side has a few little cracks. Some of you may not have had the same experience but I am not prepared to spend that much again on crap OEM tails.

I gotta say I think its a little crazy to me that the admins are almost willing to stay in between us and a possible group when I'm sure they are perfectly aware that no vendors on here have been willing to set this up. Those vendors have received consideration... they simply declined and blew off any possibility. And one specific vendor basically left us out to dry without any closure and reasoning. The forum that brings us together is basically getting in the way of potential to get something we want. Somebody should setup a Kickstarter.

You know what I find ludicrous about the whole proposal? The OP's comment from a potential vendor stating they want 25 committed buyers at a fixed price of $600. - That tells me the vendor wants ALL of the reward with ZERO risk. I think it is funny honestly. If the product has a real demand, then take a little risk and produce it. If the product sells, your reward is the margin you make on the product and future revenue from ongoing sales. - Not trying to stir up a debate here, but I don't see how that demand from a vendor works in the real world. At least in my profession it does not.

Sorry for the rant as it is not directed at any person - again I applaud the OP for trying to make something happen.

Chris.

How about using that Kickstarter website to get funding? I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I have heard some good success stories of people getting funding for all kinds of projects.

I think that is exactly the problem... The vendors have done the math and don't think the demand is there. So I went to a vendor and said: "Look, we really want this - what do you need?". They have already decided the risk isn't worth it so they want a guarantee if they are to go forward on an idea they think won't be financially viable. It make sense to me. I really don't know why an actual sponsor/vendor on this site didn't do the same - Get the commitment up front - then develop the product.

Exactly, so every car that has LED tails is trying to look like a 997 ?

I don't see rear LED's being the same thing as trying to change the 996 headlights to be round. I simply want LED's to modernize the car. I added updated wheels, LED 3rd brake light, and would like to finish the look with a nice set of LED tails.

Is there current a plan of record? Meaning, is there a vendor in place, a design in place, and an ordering system in place to give deposits to get this done?

Obviously, this has been tried many, many times through the years...and I'm not sure how close anyone ever got to finalizing a real set. Are there any prototypes available in private hands? Do we know how long a vendor would need to produce a new prototype, and then get on a real production schedule? Are there any real projected costs?

Sorry for the basic barrage of questions, but someone is clearly going to have to organize this effort, ask all the hard questions, keep people posted as of progress, and collect money for the vendor. I would assume we need to work with a forum sponsor in order to stay 6SO approved too.

My apologies for missing any of the big details. I'll go back and skim this thread to see what I really did miss.

I am 100% in for a set if they are similar to the ones for the 996 NB.

Would these be make in Germany or some place in the far east like China or Taiwan? The reason I ask is that I'd be a little hesitant about putting any fine quality Chinese product on one of these cars. If this was a German or a US make product that would be another story.
