New Gt2 Throwing Code
Hello Everyone!
I recently traded my Aston Martin Vantage in for a 2003 black/black gt2.
I have been lurking on these forums for a while, and thought I would make my first post.
Today (my third day of ownership) I got a check engine light, after my car idled for the first long period of time... (I was talking to les schwab about new all season tires). My exhaust is a custom fabricated, with 100 cell race cats.
I'll probably get a durametric soon, to read this and future ecu codes.
Is this a common thing to set off the CEL?
Also... Is it common for the key to have a hard time coming out? Sometimes my key slides right out, but other times I have to turn it hard to the left before it comes out.
Thanks for the help, and I'm sure ill think of more questions eventually...

Will that code scanner give me all the info I need to identify the problem?
How do they work exactly? Do they give me the code number and then I can look up what it means?
Also: Do they clear codes too?
Thanks

A durametric is the only way to go, I did a group buy on them some time ago and I just might do another.
The code is likely a MAF if it was idling for a bit. Not super common to get codes often but some cars with some mods are more problematic. Usually they are just nusence codes.
As per the Key issue that is not common. Check to see if your steering lock has tension on it when you pull it out; that some times causes an issue. Just turn the wheel to see if there is tension there. If not you might be in the market for a new ignition mechanism. I have seen that a few times with guys who run key chains that are loaded up with lots of junk / weight.
Cheers

Even the cheapies should be able to read OBD codes and the codes can.be googled or there may be a.list with the scanner. As stated the Durametric is really where its at tho. I need to get one too.

Its actually a clear satin bra... Pretty weird way to make a car flat black. I think the guy did it because (im not sure on this) the 3M vinyl wasn't around back then.
But I'm having it taken off soon. IMO flat black is so overdone.
I already took the roof, and two doors off. It left 20% of the surface area covered in adhesive, which I then had to disolve layer by layer with 3m adhesive remover... Then I buffed the remaining residue out and it's a mirror now...
Ill let a shop do the rest, as it took me 8ish hours to do just those panels...

I'll probably get a cheapy to check my code while my durametric comes in the mail.
gotta love turbo's
)as engineguy mentioned the durametric is the way to go if you're "serious" but i can't fix sh*t anyway, so the actron works fine for small stuff and clearing maf related codes and it's like 75 bucks on fleabay/amazon. an invaluable tool to have.
scratch that.. only 59 bucks

Got my durametric in the mail yesterday.
Turns out the code was what I had expected. It was something about my cat not running efficiently enough.
The CEL turned off the day before I even got the durametric. But it was still very fun playing around with all the monitoring, and the data loging.
