What's up with my wheel? help.

I noticed a while ago that my one wheel was chipping a little, thought I just hit up curb or something casual just happened to it. I hadn't payed much attention to it for a while and then today when I was getting a handwash the car attendent pointed it out to me, it had gotten much worse. I've attached a pic. Has this ever happened to anyone before? How do you think I should handle this, I bought the car used off a private owner, it's a 2002 and it's still under warranty, is this kind of chipping a factory wheel defect of somesort? What do you guys think? Thanks

Should be warranty. At the same time get them to change out your rusted wheel bolts.

looks like the wheel has been repainted. since u bought the car used this is highly possible therefore it will not cover by warranty. factory wheels are powdercoated so the paint doesn't peel off like this.

Hmm...Does it look repainted? Maybe it was if nobody else has seen this kind of chipping on their wheels before.

You're right, it is "peeling", bad choice of words by me. Are wheels covered under warranty though? I guess I'll take it to the dealer first and see if they'll take responsibility for it then go from there.

that'll depends on the dealer then. chances are factory wheels paint don't peel like that but if they're cool enough they might take care of it.

let us know how it goes.

Update: They won't cover the wheel under warranty so they're gonna get me an estimate. Also, I asked them if they could hook me up with new lugnuts cause as you can see in the picture above they're all rusty as hell, well they gave me a price of $300, ha. I was like wtf, thought they would comp me the lugnuts, my dealer sucks, anyone know where else I can find cheaper lugnuts at? Thanks

Go to a different dealer and try the case again. The lug bolts are warranty item, I just had all 20 replaced at no charge.

Thanks for the responses. So are the wheel bolts warranty or are they 5 bucks a bolt? I'll probably call a Porsche rep and tell them about this.

I was in for a routine service, and my dealer pointed out the surface rust on the bolts and had them repainted---under warranty. Supposedly this is a common problem and they have been notified by Porsche to take care of this issue otherwise the bolts may rust against the wheels.

$300? That's nuts!
