So with a Tip the next thing to change is the Plenum to make my TIP rev more freely ? Current Mods Larger intercoolers, 3 inch Y pipe, BMC Air Filter, Exhaust, Sportec ECU Tune, Billet Turbos

Ok the GT3 RS lightweight pulley looks like an easy kill, just means I have to take the dammed exhaust off again. The Plenum sounds logical as I saw no benefits when I fitted the 3 inch Y pipe and surely it makes sense getting more air into the engine ? Any other suggestions welcome ....

I use a 2.5'' wye pipe and make 1288 rwhp.. not sure what you are after as a tip makes a engine feel soggy in the 996 platform. Do you have any data on your car? 60-130? 1/4? dyno?

I had a Dyno after Sportec rebuild the engine, ran something like 560 hp, with 800 nm torque but it still doesn't rev !!!

Doesnt the Boost power make up for the slight decrease in rev. speed? ..LOL..After all its a turbo car.

The tip is the root of the trouble here, and believe me, I sympathize. May I suggest also ringing up EVOMS and asking them about their high stall torque converter as well as their snazzy transmission control unit which they claim dramatically transforms the tip into a quick-shifting trans. There are also a couple other vendors that can rebuild the tip with stronger components and revised shift maps to make it a PDK rival. They can be made into proper monsters. Not cheaply however, but nothing ever is on these buggies.

Cheers
Mikey

Smaller diameter, lighter weight torque converter might work? Does anyone offer one?

None that I've found, and I've looked. Problem is the TC must be built strong enough to hold a given hp/tq (or more), and that requires a given amount of material to yield that strength, plus a margin of safety. That material masses "x", and it's hard to get around it. The stall rpm can be changed, the clutch packs can be changed and the TCU modded to raise line pressures, all of which help the trans perform better in the sense that it shifts quicker and holds higher hp, but do nothing to reduce the rotating masses involved. Course the mods giving higher hp have the net effect of being able to accelerate that rotating mass quicker, so I guess that to get your tip to rev more "freely", just add hp.

Cheers
Mikey

Yep Tim will post a dyno tom, its not that is doesn't rev, if you floor it, the Tip will autochange through the box in manual mode at circa 6,500 rpm, its just that it doesn't rev very freely up and down throughout the range, ie the engine doesn't appear to spin very freely

Light weight pistons, rods, crankshaft
We are getting a few people together trying to do a Stroker Kit, you might want to check it out as well. I realize there is quite a bit more cost involved but other than a light weight pulley which I don't think would help that much or a smaller diameter, lighter torque converter which means you will have to take the trans out of the car, which would cost around $1200 and up from what I have been quoted and paid for my clutch job, the lighter weight rotating mass, engine internals could be an alternative. The added displacement, torque and power will help that puppy sloop up better too, both in Turbo boost\response and RPMs!! The car would make more toque\hp off boost and help spool up your turbos faster, and make more torque\hp the rest of the RPM band as well; not to mention the benefit of having a built motor where you can make a ton more power without worrying about stretching your rod bolts

Does come with a large price tag though. If you are interested let me know and we can chat a bit to see if we can figure out a specific combination, bore\stroke for you where the weight savings will be optimized to help you with your situation.

I will ask around about the torque converter to see if anyone has something for you.

That is the trans and the tuning doing that. Nothing outside that will change that. You can put all the light weight whatever and whatnot on the motor and it will not change what the ecu and tcu tell the engine to do.

somebody with an automatic wants it to rev more freely. I've heard everything now.
