Advise on OBDII scanners

OK, Here is a list of links to some of the available scanners. I know the first two are often referred to:

http://obd-2.com/

http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-scantoolpc.html

But dose anyone know about these? Especially if you use Mac.:

http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16150

http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=obdii

Would really appreciate input from anyone with experience using the last 2. TIA

I use the Pocketlogger (and have for the past 4 years or so). Zippy (on these boards) went out and bought the same setup per my recommendation.

This thread might be of help to you:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...threadid=26998

I get about 15-17 samples per second and can log these values (plus view and clear ODBII codes as well).

http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.ph...ams&type=obdii

OBDII Parameters:

Calculated Load
Coolant Temperature
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank X
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank X
Fuel Pressure (Gauge)
Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure
Engine RPM
Vehicle Speed
Ignition Timing Advance
Intake Air Temperature
Air Flow Rate from MAF
Throttle Position
Oxygen Sensor Bank X Sensor Y

You will need to buy (unless you already have one) a Palm Pilot that is compatible. (you can pick up a really cheap one on E-bay if need be). You can read the list of supported Palms here:
http://www.pocketlogger.com/?pid=faq_pda_list

Here is the price:
http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=plobdii

PocketLOGGER for OBDII - $125.00
(Data Cable and Software)

Wow, they have down in price. It was $175 back when I bought it many years ago.

the absoulte best data logger out there is the Raptor obd 2 logger by SCT. it samples 62 bits of info per second. It requires a laptop for use. http://www.sctflash.com/raptor.php

*it says ford, but works on our 03 E55*

Thanks to Ruiner, I picked up the Pocket Logger to run on an old Palm IIIc which I had to pull out of the over-the-hill technology box. I find the Pocket Logger to be very useful.

I pulled the trigger on the PocketLogger. I'll post to let others know how it works for me. I didn't have all of the options as others since I use a Mac.

Thanks to all for advise!!!

I dont know for sure if it will work on a porsche, but it worked our our benz. You can get them for about $400. If interested I can point you in the right direction of a good person to deal with.

I use the Harrison unit with an old laptop. When logging 4 data items it samples about once every 3/4 second. I can't get it to measure fuel rail pressure or Manifold pressure. It does measure:

Calculated Load %
Coolant Temperature
Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1,2
Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 1,2
Engine RPM
Ignition Timing Advance
Intake Air Temperature
Air Flow Rate in grams/second
Throttle Position %
Oxygen Sensor wideband Bank 1,2 Lamda
Secondary Oxygen Sensor Bank 1,2 volts
A/F ratio and fuel trims read out, it won't log these but you can watch it while you drive (dangerous).
It reads and resets codes.
It won't read or reset airbag codes.

For those interested, I am using the Autoenginuity unit and it works great, I used to use it on my 2000 S/C 540 now I use it on the P-car.... Jay at AE is a great guy BTW. My unit is a dual mode and works on my laptop and Dell X5 PDA.

AutoEnginuity dominates. The guy who develops it is a friend, but i also watch how he test competition and the extent of his program. He tests on my 996 all the time. Its Speed Tracer function, accurate readings, and over package is far superior IMO. PM me with questions.

Yeah, the Pocketlogger logs all of the above, but at about 15-17 samples per second.
