Is my car stock ride height?
Is my car stock ride height?
Since I purchased my car I was told that I have stock suspension. Every time I compare my cars wheel gap to other stock car I swear my car looks lowered. I was wondering if there was an option that looked factory that lowered your car ie X73, but was this an option that is hard to see?.
When I was looking at other stock Porsche's the wheel gap looked huge, but my car looked like it was lowered for sure. When I got the PPI at Porsche done they said "it appeared stock".
I have 997 turbo wheels, 15mm spacer in back, 7mm spacers up front, 305 in back and 235 up front.
I have a TechArt body kit incase that make the appearance look like it is lower. If you look at the wheel gap compared to other stock ones there seams to be a huge difference.
Take a look at the pics and tell me if I am going crazy and it you guys have any thoughts of why this is.
My car is the 1st picture with the spacers as dicribed above, second picture stock with stock 18" wheels and 3rd picture stock with 19" wheels. The last pictures is my car without spacers.
My uncle got a 03 X50 and his wheel gap with the same 19"997 wheels are much higher them mine as well.
Thanks

All I can say is I had a 996 Turbo S lowered on H&R springs and with 5 mm spacers and 997 turbo wheels. When I look at the first pic with those wheels, and if I understand right you are running a 15mm spacer on back, I would have to say it is lowered for the wheels to look like that, if not I would think the 15 mm spacer might be to aggressive, but then again you are on a 305 rear and I was on a 315 rear. Not sure.
The 3rd pic looks more like stock height to me.

Have you ever measured the center point of your wheel arch on each end of the car, from the ground to the top/middle of the opening? That might give you a nice metric for comparison with others. My car has stock springs and I could get the numbers for you.

I just went out and took some rough measurements for you, and measured in centimeters to make it easier for you. Keep in mind my car has about 50-60 pounds of weight reduction on the rear and probably about 1/3 of a tank of gas at the time of the measurement.
Front: 67.9cm
Rear: 67.1cm
I measured at the centerline of the wheel, from the ground up to where it met the wheel arch. This was complicated slightly by the fact that my car is sitting on Race Ramps flat stoppers for the winter, but the measurements are at least consistent with one another.
I hope that helps. Best wishes!
I have front= 66.5cm rear= 68.2cm
Steve you said your car is being stored on Race Ramps, how might that effect the measurements if it was off of the "Race Ramps"?
If your car was on just the ground, how would those measurements compare to mine?
Thanks for all your help!!

Bobby,
It's possible that the Race Ramps are altering it a little bit, but they are the flat stoppers product and the car is sitting on 4 of them. So I suspect it's reasonably close to if the car was sitting on the ground since it's completely level on the flat stoppers. I suspect there could be fluctuation just due to tire brands and how far worn the tires are too, even comparing stock for stock. My car has completely stock sized tires on aftermarket wheels.
