yeah and as I said before the same "test" had the much heavier S4, underpowered, doesn't brake as well, nor handle as well as a 911Turbo, beat it?

The new Boxster is sweet, but don't take the Top Gear "lap test" as gospel.

You left out the most important part. "<<<" means wet conditions. The Audi S4 was quicker than the turbo because it was driven on a dry course while the turbo was driven on the very same course and with the same driver but on a wet course. These numbers do not belong on the same board.

If you want to compare the numbers make 2 lists. One list of "wet track" numbers and then one list with "dry track" numbers. I don't even know why they even bother to post the numbers on a single list.

Just saw the GT3 segment they were on a very wet track. Same with the 997 S as well.

And the 911 Turbo was really really wet. They say it makes a 4 sec. difference compared to dry.

FWIW, the MC12 is now in the first spot.

And a Renault F1 goes around in less than a minute.

And "<<<" doesn't mean it was wet, it simply is highlighting the Porsches.

even on the dry to dry comparisons, the M3 which outaccelerates, has better lateral grip, better handling, better braking.. is lighter than an S4 by 400 lbs IIRC... loses to the S4 ??

In almost all comparos the M3 beats the S4.

The tests are inconsistent, that's why I say don't take it as gospel.

These lap times are for entertainment only, so relax. They hardly spend hours racing around the track to get the best lap time the car can achieve.

I was playing devil's advocate - knew that it would create some waves and draw the naysayers, hence the title. While the conditions obviously are not consistent, at least the driver is - it's always Stig.

My mistake completely. I just looked at the GT3 time which I knew was done in the wet and figured that was the notation for wet.

Anyways, it just goes to show... the times are useless. The times are taken from all kinds of varying conditions. Dry, heavy rain, slight drizzle, no rain but wet track. Judging from the GT3 episode, that car was all over the place. I can't imagine the wet conditions only costing the driver 4 seconds over a dry track.
