I am looking at at 996 turbo 6 speed manual that Carfax shows had two tranny replacements in the first three years of life..I say wtf and the seller thinks no big deal everything checks out. Have you ever heard of this before in a 6 speed?

 

No big deal, 2nd gear pop out is very common.

 

It's a 'motor out' & replace tranny repair? Bcz that's what this car had..

 

agree re the 2nd gear popout fix X2. they fixed it once then went back to re-shim it so it would work right the second time.. and "they" fixed it. guessing, but it happened to me.

 

No need to remove the engine for a transmission replacement.There has to be another reason why the engine was removed....

 

Also just because the paper works says, and the owner was charged for an engine out doesn't mean the engine was actually removed.

I think it has been done, , sometimes to give the shop more time OR to fix something else that is not covered under a warranty..

 

The two "engine out"/ "replaced transmission" services were reported by Porsche of Beverly Hills...showed up on carfax. Was all within first three years of service.

 

very common.. just drive the car all the way to red-line in second and let the rpm fall down; do this a few times if it sticks you should be good.. Gbox is close to you and you can always send it out to get the gt-2 gears done for the first three gears.. i'm doing it just to get the most out of my car.. can't wait! the first gear in these cars are too short...
