Anyone use jack pads for putting your car on stands?

Do I need to use jack pads like these on ebay to put my car up on jack stands?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-Carr...8240e3&vxp=mtr

I need to get my car up on stands to do some work on it so any advice would be appreciated!

i use hockey pucks to ensure i clear the side skirts when i use my lift. for that price it seems like a decent deal.

oops that price was for 1! you can get 4 hockey pucks for under 20$ shipped and they work fine

I use something similar. I find that it prevents the claws on some lifts from gouging into the plastic trim of the side skirts. The plastic insert prevents the disc from shifting positions during the lift. Otherwise the hockey puck works too.

what i found with the jackstands were grind down the teeth, use a small metal plate and drill and tap thru the stand then drill the hockey puck and bolt it all together. this way it cant slip off

I use exactly the same type of jackpads and I put flags on them to prevent driving away with them attach to the car...... Yes I did......

Little bit cheaper but work like a charm....http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-JACK...item337880f10a

Both.

When a puck slides to the lateral edge, it can actually shift the weight support and bend then jack point.

My friend made a set for his corvette with eye bolts drilled thru the center. They keep the puck from shifting and actually lock in place when turned.

Just a few weeks ago I took a drive with the 2 rear jacking pucks still installed (inadvertantly, of course). I was taking a friend for a ride who was interested in 996TT's, so I *may* have hit higher than legal speed on the drive. When I was coming back to my house I actually had the thought that I left the pucks on and thought that they must both be total goners. To my surprise one of them stayed in place despite the crazy ride! So, I had to order one replacement, but now think I'll be looking for some flags like you mentioned!

Thanks Steve I feel better now. I was not the only one... But I was luckier than you because I remember exactly where I heard a noise of something hitting the underside of the car about a kilometer from home. Went back and found it . A bit scratch but still working!!!!
