GIAC Stage 1 or Stage 2 for my 996 TT 03

Hi,

I would like to have honest comments on how reliable the Giac stage 1 or stage 2 is for my TT. I know that my boost pressure will go up to about 1.1 bar but I want to know how bad is that extra stress on the engine ? Can it handle it, not only today but for many years to come ?

Also, a local performance shop can do the Giac stage 1 for 1800$ and they told me that if anything goes wrong with the car, they can reprogram it to OEM specs so I can send it back to the dealer for warranty repairs. Is that true ? The car is an 03 with 3000miles on it.

Finally, what is the difference in stage 1 and stage 2 ? Is the map program the same except on stage 2 you consider the gain in HP made by the exhaust system ? Also, they told me that in either stage 1 or stage 2, I can use my OEM DV , is that true ?

Would you guys recommend doing it for the power, is there a big difference (if yes, please explain)....

Regards
Bo

It's VERY reliable. A huge difference and everyone we've ever flashed has been _more_ than happy. You'll be at 1bar of boost with that level. If you get flashed you can always get the hand held unit and change from stock to performance mode. ALternatively you can still get flashed and should you need some kind of warranty work done you just get flashed back to stock free of charge...

Apparently the TT engine is quite capable of handling the boost you'll get with the chip. For your car they can "flash" the ECU in place and as Sharkster said you can get a handheld device to change the programs back and forth. This is what I have and it works well. The programming for Stage I and II is essentially the same. The difference in HP is due to intake and exhaust upgrades. I have the EVO V-flow intake and Europipe exhaust. It is also recommended to get Billet DVs (I have the EVO DVs), the stock ones will go bad and they are really POS. Anyway, I'm getting 1.2 boost easy...and it is quite impressive. Well worth it IMO. The whole package really is a kick!

Absolutely do get the DVs just to handle the higher boost. The stock bosch ones are from the Audi/VW 1.8T cars and not up to snuff... the leak after a while. In case you were wondering it only took 2.1bar of boost to bend my rods last year so you don't worry about that sorta stuff

Thanks for all the help.

Is there anyone in here who has numbers (like 0-100 kmph, 1/4 miles) for "before" and "after" the flash ? Or even the real Wheel HP before-after ?

Cheers
Bo

Thanks for all the comments,

It seems like the results are mostly positive.

Is there someone who had BAD experience after the use of the flash program ?

Regards
Bo

Chip only? That is very impressive. Does adding an exhaust and intake help much on top of the chip?

I had DV's and and a K&N but a stock exhaust when I ran that. It was very cold in sacramento that day and other than that I was stock.
