Is trying to obtain a Porsche 996 Turbo a shallow goal?
Is trying to obtain a Porsche 996 Turbo a shallow goal?
I've told one person at work who said, "wouldn't you want to take a year off from work or go traveling?" (with the money I have saved up)
Another flat out chuckled and said "good luck, man. You're not getting a Porsche".
In any case, as many people who I know IRL who like sports cars and exotics, it seems like I'm the only one who has this goal of getting something more than a car-- a supercar, and not just a car. If I wanted a car, I would have gotten a KIA, older Civic or a old ugly, uninspiring car.
I know at the end of the day, a 911 is ''just'' a car, but that is only to a person who doesn't care about cars, like a lot of moms, other women, motorcycle enthusiasts, etc.
In all honesty, I don't care about fancy watches, boats, mansions, large houses, or anything that goes with owning a 911, so I still think this short term goal of mine is reasonable and is not a bad way to instill some drive and motivation in me to work harder to obtain it, eventually.

I have always wanted a 911 Turbo, since I was a kid, started with posters, then videos, cars shows, etc. When I got to the point that I could really afford a Porsche I got a 2011 Spyder. Yeah, it's not the 911 that I always dreamed about but I was finally in the Porsche club and knew what the attraction was to P-cars. And now, as of 2 days ago, I have my 911 Turbo S. No, it's not brand new and, might seem long in the tooth to some, but it is something I have always wanted. It's an 05 and will smoke pretty much anything on the roads except maybe GTR's and it's newer brethren. If you want something bad enough it doesn't matter who is against you or who thinks it's foolish. In the end life is short and you have to live for the moment and do what makes you happy. Just my .02
You only live once enjoy yourself. If you work hard save up go for it. I have a little thing I go by. I don't want to be the richest man in the cemetery or do i want o be a broke as man. So I saved got my 911 and if I happen to go tomorrow I went out with a smile nd no regret. Good luck and post the pics of the new car.

Thanks for the support and responses guys. I haven't told my friends yet-- not really sure how they will react, if they think i'm joking, or be supportive.
#9shooter, I won't be able to post pics until 2 or even 3 years from now. However, I will still work for the car and enjoy it.
Speaking of work, I know another guy there who owns 6-7 expensive watches, all bought from his dad who has deals on them. TAG Heugers, a Carrera watch
, a Bulova, Citizen and Tissot watches. He's not rich or anything, and i'm not into watches so I don't see the appeal-- however, I guess its almost the same perspective the 2 others had for me and my goal of getting a 911.

Just curious, how old are you?
What do you do for a living?
How much do you earn annually?
Do you own a home with a garage?
Approx what is your net worth?
Answer these questions so we have a better idea of who you are and if it seems reasonable to spend $50K on a depreciating asset like a Porsche 996Turbo.
If it's within your grasp and you are not short changing yourself in other areas, go for it!
