Does anyone know where you can buy the aluminum piece that surrounds the shift **** boot in the pic below? It's a small touch but it spruces up the interior a bit.

 

I think it comes as part of that style of shift ****. I have been searching for just that aluminum trim piece myself to add to my stock 996 shifter. I will be staying tuned to this thread. Thanks for raising the question.

 

Hmm, you may be right. I was wondering how it would fit?! It must be attached to the boot.

 

i had all that x71 stuff in my last one; the rings/ alum e-brake etc.. miss 'em. la dismantlers has all that *used* stuff. too bad they think prices should be like "new".

 

That can be done with aluminum paint. I don't believe the trim ring is other than painted from OE. Take the boot off and paint the ring.

 

i'm beginning to think like that too. what i could do with one small bottle of testor's silver and it'll be just like back at the slot car track unbelievable what they get for oem trim parts. esp on build sheets

 

Only thing is: there is no ring at all on mine? It transitions straight from the boot to the center console? Just like the pic below:

 

I think the earlier 996s had the trim, my '99 C2 did. Or maybe it was part of the CF shift **** accessory that my car had.

 

After some further research, I'm pretty sure it indeed comes with some upgraded shift *****.

Since when is "****" a bad word btw ?? Apparently you have to be logged in as a member to see it

 

upgraded, that sounds right.. and it wasn't stock.. part of the alum pkg. i think it was a pkg. maybe it was a package deal on a **** lol the smaller package might even have come with a knobette. go ahead, censor me, i dare ya lol

Carnewal sells it for like 80$. I sourced mine there about 2 years ago. Hope they still carry it.
They're located in Belgium, but ship pretty fast.

The ring is definitely just painted from the factory. You can see several cars where the paint is starting to blister slightly.
