Small Turbos Big Results

I just posted a 5.35 60-130 mph with a alpha 28 car. Last December we

posted a 5.87 second 60-130 on a K16G setup!

Both setups were a product of 911 Tuning, aka Markski. The 2001 996TT

was put on a strict diet and was 340 lbs off stock, but still retains a

full interior with a/c, carpet and kick *** stereo with bluetooth etc...

The smaller turbo setup doesn't relegate your car to a straight line

drag strip bruiser. Mine is a daily driver and it'll eat 99.999% of all

cars on the planet including most 3076 setups. I know that statement

will ruffle some feathers, but it's true.

I'm posting this thread to show Markski my appreciation and to show

folks in general, bigger is not always better. The real irony is that Porsche

was known as the giant killer in racing lore! Porsche racked up more Lemans

victories then Ford and Ferrari combined and they did it with half the

displacement of their competitors.

I must use full disclosure in that my 16g and alpha 28 setup are not

standard "packaged" product. I spent a LOT of money to get this

performance. Peeling off a couple hundred pounds is not very hard

and knowing which mods really work and offer the best bang for the buck

is a matter of doing some research and asking a few of the guys who

really know. I'm down 340 lbs and don't have a "stripped" car and that

is expensive! I also have several exterior components and suspension

parts that aren't necessarily mandatory. These cars have no trouble going

fast without them lol.

I wanna thank IPD for the 74mm plenum/throttle body. My absolute

best time before the IPD units was 5.46 seconds 60-130. I did 3 runs

after the plenum / throttle body and they were 5.52,5.7 and the record

5.35. The IPD plenum / tb works period the end.

Thank you Markski and Marcin. You guys are the best and I'll never

tell another Pollack joke again. ( not publicly anyways)

I did slap on some H & R coilovers and added 6 lbs when I swapped out

Stereo. Prolly more like 325 lbs but I can hit a 100 mph from a 3 mph

roll in under 6 seconds. That's 5 car lengths or better on a pdk car and by

130 I'll have em by an 1/8th of a mile lol. Weight loss, the Right suspension

setup and small torquey turbos are, in my opinion, the way to go. This car

does everything well.

Whats up R, thought Id get back into checking 6speed. Think I'm going to get that 89 944 turbo and build another one. This time with a garret setup instead of the kkk turbos. Time to get the tig welder out and make a new cross over section .
Cant wait to see how the new y pipe works. It looks like we have one more cold snap coming to get one more run in before the heat and humidity kill it.

lol hey my man! Man 944 turbos are sooo much fun and they handle

better then anything else on the planet. I loved mine back in the day.

And yes, you need to buy it and mod it and let me drive it!

Ordered the brake kit from pelican and the Y pipe can go on Tuesday

if you can fit me in.

I just saw the cold front on the the weather channel.com Waitin on the

tweaked tune from Markski too.

Nice job!!! I'm a believer in weight loss too...and it is easy, if you want to do it. I was down 250lbs in my car. I didn't do seats, sound deadening, carpet, steering wheel, but most everything else. I was at 1.25-1.3bar when I ran 5.99. I was hopng to get to 5.5's or so with upgraded piping, IC's, but it tuned out that my wastegates wouldn't get past 1.3 bar..so I quit...Based on what we saw on the dyno, as far as power under the curve and spool, so far, I woulda, coulda, got there...but dreams are like a**holes..everyone's got em...
Based on my 60-130 data, meth got me 4tenths, weight loss got me another 2tenths. I think I went 6.6 with just 18g's and exhaust, 6.2 with the meth and 5.99 with some weight loss...
Congrats again...great achievement on the "little" turbos!!!

5.99 aint nuthin to sneeze at! We are desensitized here on 6 speed.

Your car out accelerates all but a hand full of exotic hyper cars and you

could DD it.

Thanks, it went OK...only trapped 134, but had a lot of room to grow. It was pretty much out of fuel, pump wise, and again, wouldn't make any more boost. The only thing that was obvious for the weight loss was the missing back seats...useless anyway...

I think with the additional mods and wastegates, I would have gotten 5.5 or so...I know Chris ran 5.1 or 5.2 with 18g's, but that was on E85...I wasn't getting within a country mile of that...
Have you checked you 1/4 and ET with the Pbox to get an idea?
Am I close?

Fantastic results...but in real world when you will race from 40miles a big turbo setup you must change from 2nd to 3rd and 4th etc...

I guess you did your best 60-130 with only one gear change...

As most people do...what do you mean "real world"? If you can run that quick, why bother changing gears? The benefit of the Alphas is you don't have to be in such a low gear to get quick spool...

60 -130 is something just indicative for me.

Certainly it is a very fast car!!!

Τhe 60-130 is easier for cars with small turbos ... this is mostly referred to less gear changes because the advantage of torque at medium rpm range.

This doesn't mean that it will be in front of a big turbo setup in all possible races
