Kenwood DDX470 Double-Din Install on 2001 996tt

Hi -

I am getting ready to install the Kenwood DDX470 double-din DVD player in my 2001 996tt. I have purchased the kit from ebay from eurospeed so I know that aesthetically - everything should work. However - I know the 996tt have alot of different audio options that came with the car. My particular car has the HiFi package (speakers on the doors) and also have the DSP option as well. I believe my car has an amplifier driving the speakers right now. I was wondering how the amp is connected to the OEM radio (CR-220). I was wonder if it is currently connected using RCA or speaker level input. Have anyone here did the upgrade with this specific setup? Thank you.

Install is completed and what a difference a head unit can make to the sound. I also changed out the midbass door speakers. Everything sounds great. Let me know if anyone is interested in the Kenwood DDX470.

How did you wire it in?

Did you buy an adapter harness, if so who sells it?

Did you bypass the factory amp, if so did you just run new wires to the speakers?

Thx

I used the 996 double-din kit from Ebay. It's a little pricey but it worked perfectly. Just go to Ebay and search for "996 double din".

I am still using the factory amp so I did not run any new wires. Overall - the sound is drastically better than what it was before.

Yes - I am still using the factory Bose amp. It sounds so much better now with the new double din unit. I believe you can use the factory Bose amp so as long as your 996tt is a 2001-2002. 2003 996tt uses fiber optic connection from head unit to amp. Hope that helps.

Oh cool, mine is 02 too, which is not fiber optic, so aftermarket head unit could connect to our bose amp without any adaptors?

I thought I saw somewhere like the Bose amp cannot operate\decode using others of stock head unit...Thanks.

Yes - you should be good to go. If you are tackling this job and have any issues, please do not hesitate to ask. Here are some pictures of my install during and after. I also installed a USB adapter on the lower dash because I did not like the USB cable dangling out.

so you are saying the head unit will plug into the factory connectors and everything will just work? do i need to change and wires at all or need to buy and adapters?

thx

The installation kit came with 2 keys that I needed to remove my existing OEM radio. I didn't have the NAV option, so not sure if it's the same for you.

That is correct - I didn't have to change any wires whatsoever. Everything was plug and play with the double din installation kit.
