Any flashed ECU blow up a Mezger M64/70w (or is this a special 9ff feature?)

Hello Guys, so as you see in the other thread - my car has blown up 2 motors. The culprit no doubt is the 9ff 608HP ECU that the car came with.

It's bad enough to blow up one motor on a flashed ECU, but TWO??

Anyhow, that trash 9ff program is DEFINITELY coming off my ECU since I decided to keep the car. So I'm wondering what suggestions you guys have. Ihave the following mods.

-9ff Exhaust
-9ff K24/26 turbos
-Hard inlet pipes
-5bar FPR
-enlarged Y piece (air collector behind engine)
-B&M air filter
-OEM headers

I'm looking more for 100% reliability over huge power.

I'm thinking in no particular order…

Marksi
protomotive
switzer

Get some injectors, and have Protomotive or EPL tune it. Probably best to go back to stock FPR (with upgraded injectors 72 or 60 lb)

Good luck.

I was told back in the day when these cars first came out that every now and then a tuners customer car blew a motor since they were still playing /pushing the ECU for more power without knowing how to doing it safely.. From what I understand that's how a few of the big tuners learned...

I have been tracking my car alot (not so much this year) since I met you at the POC "Triple Crown" at Willow Springs in 2011. No issues at all with the EPL tune.

Next year the K16 billets, injectors, and tune from EPL are on the radar.

Sorry to hear of your problems

Could be an old tune that may have been pushing the limits too far as stated in one of the posts above.

Thanks Man, yeah, the tune is old, but it's probably got more to do with Jan Fatthauer and 9ff than anything else. 2 motors grenaded...grrrr. Of course, they just run and hide.

Well, my DME is heading off to Mark. I spoke to him briefly yesterday. That dude made my head spin with his knowledge. His reputation is well deserved - and he's from my home town - the Chi.

Good Choice..
Its funny ,, But tuners out there know when motors are blown from other tuners mistakes because of their customers playing leap frog ,,plus all the other stories behind close doors that will NEVER make it to PUBLIC knowledge...

Any good tuner will want you to datalog the car and send them the results to verify/tweak. If they don't then run!

Thoughts on GIAC?

I have the GIAC 650 and was not asked to catalog. Should it have been?
What is the forum's thoughts on GIAC? Build list in Signature.

Hi,

a few weeks ago I drove to 9ff to see a friend who is working with them and I talked to Jan in person. I do have the impression that he is a honest guy and he knows what he is doing.

Whatever happened to your car, please consider that it might have been modified or that you are running bad fuel compared to what this tune was written for. Nobody knows what the ECU has in there. Probably not even a 9ff file anymore. Mark will tell you.

If you need help with that we can talk to Jan and see if we can find out what is wrong with the car.

I drove in a over 1000 HP car that was built by 9ff and this car constantly is being beaten up and shows not even signs of bruises.

Anyways: Mark will take care of you. That was a good decision.

Andreas

I know for a fact that this is 9ff software. How? Because i emailed Jan my stock file and he sent me a special prOgram for my car. Back when he did the program we argued about US vs euro octane ratings. He assured me that it was a 100% compatible program. The supporting hardware all came froBACKm him as well. It was part of the 608hp package that he put togEther.

The difference between a reputable tuner and a hack job Like 9ff is support. Jan hides instead of facing issues. I sent Jan an email to get his thoughts. no response. not this time his software blew up a BULLETPROOF Mezger. not a lifted head mind you... but a Hole in the block...TWICE.

that's the crazy thing about Jan. he really is a nice guy, and seems really honest... until a customer is unhappy. then he will lie and fabricate like you would never believe. I've witnessed it before and have pleaded with him to support his us customers better. his business is about his local customers only. it'd you're far away from him forget it...by the way, who is your friend at 9ff? rafel calov? Jean Pierre Kraemer?
how is Dortmund these days? been a while since I have been there...
