I am new to the process, and have spent time on the internet and these forums looking for help....

I am looking at this 2000 GT2 that has about 80K miles -- any suggestions on what to look for.

There's been several owners but the last one did spend about 10K - may have included IMS but what's the tell tale sign this is done?

Also, what does cracked coils entail by way of fix, ...

BTW, I am very mechanical oriented (maintain my on Lexus, and I do deep) -- what's the DIY like in these cars?

Any guidance greatly appreciated, and will keep looking in this forum. ("Stay away" is acceptable.)

I dont believe they is a 2000 gt2. maybe in Europe? no turbo/gt2 in US for year 2000. I maybe wrong on this tho...

 

If someone is trying to sell you a 2000 GT2....STAY AWAY.

 

lol. +1 never buy a gt2 model year that porsche didn't make. maybe it came out earlier in europe. or not.

 

You are so right. It's a Carrera with 'gt2 fins' or whatever cosmetic embellishments ....

So now its 996 buying guide... I've already been advised to stay away from 99-00 years.

 

.. another one i've heard of is carerra's with aftermarket turbo's calling them "turbo"s. avoid those as well. GL!

 

It's like the BMW "///M" 325I lol. Watch out.

 

Also you should know the 996 and 996TT are completely different engines! No IMS problems for starters!
