Need new headers (996TT w K24s)... Suggestions?
Need new headers (996TT w K24s)... Suggestions?
Hey guys
I have an '02 996TT with K24's (GT2), GMG Exhaust, etc.
It also has GMG headers, both of which now have cracks. Incidentally, this was the true cause of bank-wide misfire codes that I was getting inexplicably (so in the meantime I just put it back to a stock tune - wanted to figure **** out before tuning it back up).
My goal is just to be around 550 - 580 HP. Nothing crazy, but usable.
Any quality headers that have a proven track record of not cracking?
Do I need to go aftermarket, or should I just look for someone's stock headers from a 996TT/GT2? I've heard it doesn't really make much difference unless you're going for 600+...
Any insights appreciated...
Thx
-Chris

They've already been welded once, and unfortunately it's not an option this time
The crack is on the inside of the 3-pipe junction. To be properly welded we would need a flexible arc welder the size of a syringe needle

Thanks guys
Yeah, those Kline's look deadly. I suppose jet engine materials might be up to the task... Their site is confusing as hell though. And also they're only 2.5"

Re: talking to Fabryce, no, not yet. I did not install those headers on the car myself, therefore I can't blame them exclusively (prev owner did). It may well be the effect of another cause.
They do seem really robust. At the end of the day everything is basically just material + fabrication, so I'm not out to point fingers.
I have a suspicion that the car may have been bottomed out at some point, as one of the headers did have a scrape mark on it.
Same with the exhaust, one of the tips sits slightly higher than the other side, so obviously it kissed the ground at some point.
That may have been the initial catalyst.
If you guys swear by GMG, since they're well priced, I might as well get another set shipped up. To keep it all uniform.

And also, in case anyone's wondering why I don't simply install the stock headers... I didn't get them with the sale of the car. I only have the GMG's.
Otherwise I would just port/polish and throw 'em back on.

Unless your going for over 600hp, headers don't do much for you. You're better off opening up stock flanges to match exhaust ports. Just takes some time and a grinder. Way cheaper than new headers.
