The best 911 turbo....................
From my point of view, agreed. The last truly performance oriented Porsche Turbo. The 997 became way too GT, and then overladen with nannies. It's the step into the modern era without being over driven for you by engineers. The AWD is only just enough to be considered AWD. The perfect blend of all the Turbo's. Understated yet very potent. It has it's faults, but still a great car, and still the last performance icon 911 Turbo.
And the only one without headlights from the 50's. A huge plus in my book.
I'm thinking of buying another one for the street.

I love my 996 Turbo. Its supercar for regular-man money almost anybody can afford. Great thing is I can take my son to daycare in it and smoke a Bentley on the way home for about the same price as a brand new regular family car would cost.
Sometimes I think about what I could replace the car with that I could be happy with and I can't think of anything for less than double the price.
I think the best performance car for the money is the C6 Z06. However, if you want better build quality as well the 996 Turbo is the way to go... but stock for stock the C6 Z06 will likely beat it on a track for the same money.

Agreed.

I can't fathom the... "hate" is too strong, so let's just say "disdain" that this model gets from the so-called purists and enthusiasts. I've LOVED the 996(.2) since the moment I set eyes on its redesigned headlamps. So much more aggressive and engaging than the breed "standard." Am I the only one that sees it? Interior design is charmingly analog and simple, a driver's sports car feel. And the performance, yeah... no need to expound on that.

One of my close friends, his dream car WAS the 993 TT. He had driven my car many times, he is an old porsche guy. He stated that the 993T was a Porsche's guys wet dream. He had nevert driven one, but he had driven my 996 T. Long story short, he had a chance to drive a mint sub 10k miles 993 T, once he got a promotion as a IB and was looking to buy one, and called me right after the drive and said it was the BIGGEST disappointment ever. He was coming from a 1979 SC. His exact words " From my 1979 SC to the 993 T, It felt like Porsche had done nothing , nothing had changed, only power, biggest disappointment" mind you, he knows his ****, as he has rebuilt his suspension/he has scales to do his own corner balance on his car / rebuilts his motor etc, you get the jist. Now he is shopping for a 996T.
