should i Put down the crack pipes ?exhaust question
hi guys this is my first topic so please be nice.
Last night I had an idea to cut my old fabspeed gen 1 just just after the cat and install an electric 3 inch exhaust valve whit no Y pipe bypass so direct out!! the result with my variable switch i can control the opening of the exhaust as it attenuate sound ! like a baffle
what do you think guys?

My dad put one of this on his G35 and it was cool at first. The valve started leaking after a few weeks and grew worse. Eventually the electric valve broke and it was stuck partly open. It was more of a hassle and they are not cheap. It's too bad they just don't last.
I have spent the last few days looking at the same idea. I assume your looking to block the flow to manage sound, ie the drone Porsches make at around 3k.
If your using it to "block" flow, then it would never be all the way shut, so leaking is not an issue. You would need a way to adjust the opening. Then you could completely open it based on boost or rpm.
I don't like the electric valves. There is no OEM example that use them. I do like the vaccuum controlled ones. There is a couple out there, and I'm talking with ARMA about there VEV product at the moment.
My big question is how much of a difference does it make?? Apexi have had a valve aroind for a while that had a cable so you could adjust the silencer. I've heard good and bad results.

my s1000rr bike has electric valve system and it work pretty well ! another idea is to do drill 1 inch hole in the 3 inch butterfly controlled with a boost switch so when you cruise (still its loud but can live with it )but when you throttle up the boost come in and butterfly goes wide open
Another option is to sell the Fabspeed and get something that doesn't drone. I just installed my AWE Tuning and no drone.
This is the simplest solution.

I didn't know that they used an electric valve. Bikes have the same problem as our turbo's, the length of the exhaust system is really restrictive to design.
I had the same idea as you for drilling the butterfly - except drilling multiple holes. The other consideration I had is to mount the valve as near to the tip as possible. Mufflers work better under pressure, so with the added back pressure on more of the system, the muffler will also perform better.
http://www.spracingonline.com/store/...ctivated_/3673 - This is a boost controlled valve. Opens like a wastegate at 5psi and fully open at 11. Would be easy to hook up a EBC and have different maps for it to open.
The ARMA VEV - http://www.armaspeed.com/eng/goods.php?act=cat&no=53 - has electronics plus a controller. You can run in open, closed or auto mode.

hJS has them. Only 65mm and expensive, looks nice though.

Edit- same valve as Arma
