Hello Everyone,

I'm looking into possibly tackling the task of changing out the LEDs in my dash and Hvac system to a different color. Probably bright white or red. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Is there some sort of electrical diagram or blueprint somewhere showing the circuit layout of the back of the gauges? I'm fairly decent and soldering but I'm not sure which type of LED's (voltage, size, etc..) I need to get.

I'm in for this one because I hate the crappy orange and would love to change them out for red or white.

i just wish i could stop manuell from tagging my a/c readout.

 

LED cluster replacement bulbs are not hard to source. HVAC on the other hand could be a bit difficult. I've never looked behind the unit to see if the bulbs are serviceable.

I have seen a post awhile back on the cluster light changes...blue I believe...try a search it will probably show up. I'd be interested in doing something like this if it was a "mainstream" kind of easy thing to do...

this reminds me of a guy i know, spent 800 to replace a cpl missing pixels in the hvac display in his 850 ci i'm good with just the i interior leds. they help.. a lot. it'd be great to get rid of the dingy yellow in the cluster.

i was talkin to 32 lol or maybe myself. your dash will also say manuell.. no worries.
now that ya mention it.. my vw has electric blue dash lights. i'd love em in the tt!

 

the LED bulbs in the AC control are def gonna need soldering, they are small square LED's soldered to the circuit board. I'll dig my spare out and take a pic of it later.

From what I've read, the carrera/turbo from 1999-2001 are actual bulbs in the dash, 2002+ are LED's and need to be unsoldered from the back of the gauges.

I plan on somehow matching which ever LED is back there. I may buy a set of gauges off ebay before I risk using my own!

Ooh those look super easy to replace. I was expecting something much more complicated. Those are soldered right onto the PCB... I'm going to need to give this a shot.

Those are from the HVAC, not guages. I got an extra HVAC control when I bought my car. Just took it apart for the sake of hopefully someone doing a write up on how to make them blue, or red, or white, or any color i want. I have an 01 so my gauges are not soldered LED's, but I would love to do LED's there too.
