tried to turn on the engine - failure light appeared

Hi,

Yesterday i went for a drive.
Parked the car and after 2 hours in the coffee shop, i tried to go back home.
Entered the car, key on the ignition, turned it and nothing appened, except the engine failure light.

Tried it again... and nothing.

It has battery, but the stater engine doesn´t turn.

Can someone help??

Thanks,

Adelino

Check the battery. Really check the battery. Either take it to a parts store or have a friend/colleague/family member/trusted clergyman try to start the car while testing the voltage with a multimeter.

Not good enough. Test it using one of the two options I gave you. You don't want to rule out the battery, the simplest and most common reason for a car not starting, without properly testing it.

You need to just replace the battery. I fully charged mine. Same result. No start. Went to advance auto. Got another battery. And bam. Problem solved. Get a new Battery. You will need one eventually.

I've recently tried to connect a rosstech cable vag113 just to see how it works.i couldn't make any software connection, so i quited. The car started after trying that and i drove for 200miles with a few stps on the way.nothing strange. Picked the car from my garage the other night, went for a coffee and when trying to go back home...just didn't start...

Anyone check Fuse for DME? Row C, Position 1? Do you have a "check engine" light when you turn key on?

Wasn't sure if that's what he meant by "engine failure light". I didn't have an "engine failure light" in my 996 turbo.
I just recently had this exact problem in my RS6...turned out to be neutral safety switch...which incidently CANNOT just be jumped out or bypassed...screwed until you get another one...fortunately it's cheap...

Do you have to have your clutch pedal in to start your car? If so, that is your "neutral safety switch". There should be a switch on the "up" side for the cruise control and a switch on the "down" side for the neutral safety switch.
