Some Interior Remodeling
Just thought I'd share the recent mod to my 996TT.
Although it's not a performance mod, I think I'll definitely enjoy it (especially for those longer road trips). This is the Alpine 928HD and, with an 8" screen, is pretty much the largest screen you can install without major cutting into the dash. I've only had it for a little while but it's a very responsive unit (nice touch screen) and pretty much has all the functions you can think of in a state-of-the-art head unit. I also upgrade the amps, but left the stock speakers and sub woofers for now.

Looks awesome! Does the sound quality improve without upgrading the speakers and amp?
What speakers are people dropping into the stock locations?
I'd love to hear from Del Rey Customs on this as I live real close....
Nice job!

I have that exact 8" unit. If you want to change your splash screen as I did, let me know. There are some instruction and a bitmap file you have to create. Changed mine to Posche crest with orange/red swirl back ground on startup.
Just PM me.... Alpine only wants dealers to do this since if you muck up the *.bmp file the system won't boot properly. I believe alpine dealers are getting 1-2 hours of labor just to change the splash screen.
Did you have the parking brake switch bypass installed so you can access your settings while on the road ?

Took out the Bose sub and ran a custom box housing two JL 8" coax marine audio bass driver.
Power wise I am running a JL audio XD 700 and a Alpine KTP 2 channel amp.
The rear drivers are individually amplified so I can control staging with mids and highs for music needs.
Nice interior upgrade - I love it!

Thanks for the positive feedback!
The head unit is about $1400-1500. For our cars, you'll also need to replace the stock amps since aftermarket units are generally not compatible with the Bose system. I kept the stock speakers and sub for now.
Yes, the sound does improve even with the stock speakers. I did have to upgrade the amp (actually, I got two of them -- one for the sub and one for the rest of the speakers). I'm sure the sound will get even better with upgraded speakers, but I'm not really a car audiophile.
I'll PM you on this. My installer didn't mention that I (or he) could change the startup screen. He did say that other manufacturers make it much easier to change the startup screen.
Yes -- I've got the bypass. In fact, I got an extra switch put in so the backup camera can be on all the time if I want. The head unit can also support a front camera someday and, if I set them up to record, I can retire some of the GoPro cameras that I use for the track.
Thanks John. Now I need to call you soon and improve the exterior sound.

I also need to give credit to Del Rey Customs. Although they're too far from me to do the install, their posts and pictures convinced me that this would be a great upgrade.
