996 tt engine "chatter" - New owner question
Hey All-I've trolled the forums long enough...finally signed up-
Just picked up an 01 Turbo w/ 47k miles and just for peace of mind wanted to play a quick clip of the "chatter" at idle.... I know I know and yes I read a ton of info, but you guys on here know way more than I, and I am hoping the noise is very much normal for these cars... I did just change oil to 5/40 Rotella T6. Appreciate the help and hope I am nuts and just need to get used to the car.

sounds just like mine, I'm using 0w-40. Just was told by another owner about 5w muffling most of the idle marbles lol, will be switching soon.
When you rev it up, it will go away around 1500 rpm or so too I'm guessing (mine does)

Yea on cold it's very quiet, once warm she starts the "tap tap tap" I went with the rotella t6 5/40 but will try the mobil 5/40 turbo diesel next- honestly sounds the same 0/40 vs the 5/40 rotella once warmed up, so maybe that Mobil will muffle better.
??? What are you a 12 yr old girl? Use words to convey your message so it's more clear. I can get a lot of people to agree with me that its quieter when cold and when the oil thins it gets more marble-y sounding.
