Brake Pad Experience/Recommendations?

What brake pads have provided you good performance? Which left you wanting more?

I'm a new 996TT owner -- converting from Corvettes. Hawk and EBC are common vette brands. I see Pagid mentioned often wrt Porsches, but I'm not familiar with the brand. I've had really good experience with EBC's Yellowstuff on my vettes and wondering if there is anything "better" for my 996TT...

To keep things simple, assume the primary purpose is street with occasional track (DEs, etc.).

I just put on a set of Pagid RS19's (yellows) on the front of my TT and couldn't be happier. The car stops so much better than the stockers on the street. I was so happy with them that I just ordered rears. I plan to do a few DE's with the car but its mainly street driven.

I have not personally tried PFC pads, but some members really like them for street and track.

when I had stock brakes on my 996tt I heard nothing but good things about the Pagid stuff but never had a chance to try them out

I ended up putting on some Hawk DTC30's on the front and HP Plus Pads on the rear for track duty as recommended by Hawk..they worked really well, night and day difference over an OEM equivalent pad on track -- i would switch back to stock pads after the weekend to save brake dust and noise.

and as a shameless plug for myself I have a set of Used Front DTC30's that came off of my 996tt that I can sell you cheap if you want to try them out...only have 6-7 sessions on track on them and 150 or so street miles -- liquidate them for $85 if you want them.

I love my PFCs. I was never fan of the Pagids. I have driven several cars with EBC's, not sure why people say they are good...every car i have driven with those on, brake pedal felt terrible to me.

As others have mentioned, PFC pads are fantastic. That is what I run but my car is mainly track, occasional street. Dust is average, noise is relatively low for a race pad. They perform ok on the street, fantastic at the track when they come up to temp. They are a race pad and will eat your rotors when cold. The 01 compound is very abrasive. I've been using them for the last two years and have used the 08, 06, and 01 compound. Currently I run 08. For mainly street and occasional track I'd stick with OEM or swap pad before your track days. One of the best dual purpose pads I have ever run is the Endless MX72 pad. It's gentle on rotors, works very well at the track, but is expensive at around $500 for the fronts and $350 for the rears. Just my $0.02...

I don't have enough experience with different brands to offer much of a defense for EBC, but my experience with them was fantastic. Moving from a ceramic street pad in my C4 vette to EBC Yellowstuff probably reduced my dry braking distance by 15% or more. The real improvement was wet braking - I'd conservatively estimate a 25% reduction in stopping distance. Pedal modulation felt good to me, but I might not be the best judge.
