Installing Alpha 28s and AP intercoolers this weekend. Any tips?

Hi all,

In the quest for more power, I will be installing the above, along with Markski software and fueling. Car already has the supporting mods.

That said, any tips you can point my way? I found the turbo install instructions, which are helpful, but the AP intercoolers state they require modifications, and I haven't found any instructions for those.

We will be adjusting the waste-gates, and checking for boost leaks, but anything else while we are there?

I am excited, to say the least.

don't forget to install the check valves over the turbos on the oil line in the new support.

Thanks, I did see that in the instructions.

I was surprised the kit doesn't come with new lines, but being factory replacements, I suppose it makes sense.

Here is a install tip: Send the Chinese AP intercoolers back and do 997.2 ICs, Forge or ETS. Why downgrade?

I just did this on my car....

Make sure your line kit for the alphas is brand new if you bought a used kit...GET A NEW LINE KIT - Talk to SamboTT

Also, make sure your turbos are clocked to allow the mounting bolt to attach to the hangar. If they check valve is in the way, the bolt wont go through. Mock it up several times with the manifold before attaching.

For the coolant line. Remove and replace the coolant expansion reservoir, makes the job a whole ton easier. And if its yellow, replace it now while you're doing all the work.

Good time to replace the serpentine belt, too.

The instructions for the alphas are pretty straight forward. It will tell you how to install the check valves on the turbos (you have to take apart your factory check valves and swap the internals over to the alpha check valve housings), etc.

I'll pm my number so you can call/txt if you run into issues.

On that note make sure you get your flash ecu redone, upgrade fuel injectors, upgraded clutch, wastegates and 70mm exhaust. Theres more also i would upgrade everything before i get those turbos.

Honestly, AP's intercoolers are one of their better products. Yes, they are outsourced, but they are not bad for their price point.

However, there is a large reason why I went with Markski's 4.5" Intercoolers......

Does the kit come with new studs/nuts for the turbos? If not, I'd replace them.

You can get new studs from http://www.mcmaster.com/

Here is the stud: http://www.mcmaster.com/#98867a310/=nvmtik

You can go stainless if you want.

I used a dye and cleaned up the threads and bought new stainless nuts for mine.

I used them on Alpha30s to make over 650whp and ran 10s with them on the car. They worked great. Once caveat is you have to get the right hoses or you will have popout problems

AP intercoolers are junk, and you may be right they may be one of their better products.

Terrible cores, look inside them. They can be found on websites such as alibaba and there have been threads about this. I had AP hoses and they were junk compared to Forge or some of the better ones, even stock ones !

When it comes to ICs you want a NICE quality core and NICE end tank design not necessarily size. There are alot of very fast cars using 3.5" cores such as Eddie 1300 hp, Tim 1300hp, Me 1000hp.

I went with 4.5" for several reasons. Markski gave me a good deal and it's 110 here for half the year, lol.

There is a reason I did my build the way it is.

3.5" is fine, no argument there.
