Any feedback on Tuning Concepts/Justin Nenni?
I am considering a project with my car and figured it would make sense to check out Tuning Concepts for the tuning since they are just a couple miles from me. I don't see much on the board about them. Anyone have any feedback, good or bad?
I don't believe they have much experience (if any) tuning Porsches. They were known a long time ago for tuning turbo Toyotas (Lexus and Supras.) Justin has a good reputation for import tuners, but again, I've heard nothing regarding them for Porsche. Their website shows they have experience tuning standalones, so if you're ditching the stock ECU, they may be able to help.

Nope, keeping the stock ECU...not going that extreme. I'm pretty sure he's tuned Powells car so he at least has that experience. I think the custom Boost Logic 911 builds also have him doing the tuning. However, I'm not sure on much of this since I don't seem TC being thrown around much here.
Powells car has a standalone last i payed attention.
Powell's car had a piggy back system that Justin helped tune. Not sure if he does stock ECUs but there is a lot of guys doing them now
I don't know how he does P cars, but I can say for any stand alone system I would definitely go to him if I was anywhere near him. He's a phenomenal tuner. I know he does reflashes as well, but I can't speak to that side as I have no experience with him there. If memory serves, he did tune Powell's car on a V-pro which is an amazing system that piggy backs the factory ecu and lets you go speed density, and even have switchable maps on the fly. I would assume his reflash skills are on par with his stand alone skills, but again I cannot say for sure.

The kit that I have was originally built by Boost Logic and the car while I was stock ECU was Tony @ EPL. The V-Pro setup that Justin had built/wired in his personal 996TT a year before he did mine was a project because at the time there were no SUCCESSFUL ECU's that didn't give a billion dash lights; or required it's own dash (Motec). He succeeded and was able to run in true speed density. It wasn't till I think he installed the one that I had on my car that he had Tony make a few changes on the ECU. The V-Pro up until I think the latest version did not have drive by wire and a few other things. Justin's and my car needed the idle and the maximum rev limiter set (16k RPM) because the V-Pro couldn't extend the rev limiter over stock.
The V-Pro controlled the major key components to make HP. As far as the wiring went the ECU never saw spark and fuel the stock connections were on an molex with a empty connector on the other end. It shared other sensors (so dash was happy) and it controlled a few others to make CEL, ABS and PSM happy. The car used an external igniter to control the spark which with stock 997TT coils he was able to have the car make a 1040rwhp on E85 with no spark issues. An HKS DLI was added later because there was some breaking up as we got towards the area around 1100.
I would go check out Boost Logic because they too are in Austin. Justin put me in touch with them way to long ago when we started on my kit! LOL! Zohair, Joe, Jon, etc. are all awesome people to work with; and are also a good group of friends to have as well. You may run into Justin if he's got free I some how don't even need to call him when I get in town because he's at the shop already.
We had our last build there with my brothers 997TT. It was tuned by Tony @ EPL labs.

In my opinion you can't get better than Tony for stock ECU stuff. I know everyone has their opinions and beliefs; but long before I was an even a customer Tony was there to help with questions and concerns on everything. Never had any "well that is just garbage" comments but stand up honest answers on things.
I sent this over to Justin just in case I missed anything. He will be helping me with my Syvecs setup in the car. The car will also at BL hopefully in a few weeks for a week stay to update my intake pipe setup. We've had to make LOTS of changes to it personally so it's at the point where moving to the newer style like my brothers will be a lot better.

I decided to contact Tony at EPL yesterday. He advises against going MAF-less.
Safety of my engine is more important to me than not having to replace MAF sensors all the time so I will likely go with his advice.

Going MAF-less is not Speed Density on the stock ECU, don't let any person try to fill you with information. It actually is an Alpha-N tune and trust me I was the first 996TT he did with it and I was remote. The car ran awesome but it's not worth it even at high HP now. Mine was done because of the way all the intake piping was done.
What intake do you have? It's weird to pop several MAF's, but I think I got lucky maybe. I had one pop at the most random time. The second one I had lasted until I took the car off. If you go upgraded turbos I'd def research if the MAF you have is the "better one" which I can't remember which car it came out of now. It's been about 3-4 years for me.

Oh wow! I think the one I used last was a 986 MAF that was OEM. The 996 ones were terrible. Tony has the exact part # for it. He was the one who put me with it even before I had an EPL tune.
Interesting. Do you know if he had to tune for that sensor or is it just drop in and go?
