Hello,

We have been looking for our first Porsche Turbo for awile now. Looked at 2 997TTs and now 2 996TT. We are going to look at another 996TT later this week and it has a discrepancy on the AutoCheck report.

It has a high score on Autocheck (93) since it said the odometer issue was corrected.

Vehicle: 2002 Porsche 911

The car currently has 6,800 miles on it. I will obviously inspect it for wear and probably run it by a Porsche dealer to check hours. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

OdometerCheck

Your Vehicle Checks Out! AutoCheck examined the reported odometer readings reported to AutoCheck for this 2002 Porsche 911 (WP0AB29982S686176) and no indication of an odometer rollback or tampering was found. AutoCheck uses business rules to determine if reported odometer readings are significantly less than previously reported values. Not all reported odometer readings are used. Title and auction events also report odometer tampering or breakage.

check the hours on the engine.

that engine must be fresh. so in addition to hours, it likely has had no or very few type 1 or ( the ones that *matter* ) type two overrevs. not much else you can check beyond the usual for these cars and to see if the annual services were performed in spite of the mileage.

also, low mileage turbos that have been sitting for the majority of their lives seem to seep/weep. probably crying from non use lol seals, clutch accumulators, etc. anything involving rubber etc. check for spoiler working properly etc. beyond that? it should look/drive and smell like new.

can't help with odometer shenanigans. wouldn't know it if i saw it. GL

It is a Tiptronic car, so not sure if the over-rev data is relevant? Is there a general rule that so many hours = so many miles?

What color is this vehicle? I know of a low mileage car near me (Birmingham) and I would believe the 6800 miles because Ive seen it and it came out of a collection.

the only way i personally used "hours on the engine" on an ecu dump was to ascertain when exactly any type 2's occurred. beyond that, it would of course tell you hours driven relative to odometer reading. though i would probably need a slide rule and help.

i don't know about overrevs on tips. good question. not sure where the rev limiter is, but same as mt i would imagine(?)

Look at the total engine hours and divide by .035. That should be reasonably close to the mileage.

In your case take the 6800 miles x .035 for 238 engine hours.
The ECU should show something reasonably close to 238 engine hours.

Tips shift at 6500, 7000 with ECU and TCU tuning if it's a 2002+ tiptronic

It is Artic Silver over "Interior to sample" and it is located in Chicago.

It is a 2002 with an exhaust, no one has listed any other mods to the car. It looks like new in pics.

Looks very clean like the interior color but not sure about the dark wood but like it better then the lighter. The painted spoiler, lower sills and rear bumpers are not factory as far as I know.

I'm not crazy about wood in a sports car, but since it is very dark I might like it. I agree on the painted pieces, but I would want them painted anyway. We are basically intrigued by the interior/low miles/options.

You are the only one that has to be pleased with your purchase so don't get caught up in others opinions. I would get a ppi done if I was serious and work the price to your liking and go for it= that's if your sure its the car for you.
