Have any of you stripped ALL THE WAY?

I'm turing my beloved '01 996TT from a daily to a 90% track / 10% Vermont twisties weekender.

So I'm going FROM an Evo stage 2 with Fab exhaust... adding a Das-Sport roll bar (being painted seal grey), a Recaro pro racer SPG Hans seat and device, Motons, sway bars, Sachs clutch, light flywheel, possibly shortening my low gears and maybe a few goodies from Todd (such as the V-Flow, bigger turbos and headers like stage 4 or 640gt).

Any comments from users of this gear, mostly the downside stuff, like lost tooth fillings with the motons or stage 4 blew a rod or are you guys all happy with the gear?

Most importantly, here is the more doubtful part, I took out the back seats, belts and all the rear carpeting a while ago and this was the CHEAPEST and BEST mod ever, made her sound right. NOW I'm thinking of taking everything out in the front. Have any of you ripped everything out? any of it non-reversable (not good for resale)? any un-installation issues?

any experienced comments appreciated.

sorry for the wordy post.

cheers,

marco

red944,

for the brakes, I already run Pagid yellows RS-19 pads on floating disks with steel brake lines... it's all good for now, I may get bigger up front at a later stage, I really can brake late despite the tonnage and pass people coming out of the turn with the torque... but you're right I could get bigger calipers on bigger rotors.

FYI, also got pilot cups on GT3cup BBS wheels, and PS2s on the stock wheels.

GT2next,

I'll post pictures after the transformation as now she's in a weird semi-state of no seats, front carpets still in and waiting for her roll bar to dry.

Sounds like all the right mods.

Looking back, do you think it might've been better starting with a different car...like maybe a GT2 or 3?

You may want to consider Kevin's DIY OEM Header Porting and then a good quality ceramic coating as an alternative to the after market headers.

Zippy, I read the Kevin header coating thread... I'll PM him and call him before I pull the trigger. The header issues are very cool, but won't make as much a track difference as the brake/suspension work I'm doing now. It sounds like winter stuff to me (same goes for the bigger turbos and changing the gears) whereas the rest is immediate. but thanks for the head's up, might as well do it right from the get go.

Super D, well, I have a bunch of time in the GT3, great car, honestly best value in years from P. BUT very little to upgrade, it's a NASTY tuned C2 with a overrevving turbo block, but it's done out of the box, hard to get more out of it. The GT3 cup cars are way nasty, the clutch is impossible, easy to **** up BAD, but I thought of getting a used cup car, but they are another league, engine refurbs once/twice a year, ect... now the GT2, I thought about for a long time, thought about taking the hit now on the TT and swapping out since the poor GT2 boys got massively screwed by P by the overproduction and prices are so low... however already had the TT, the AWD system is not that bad a thing as long as you know how to whip it to shape so that the front patches aren't overloaded with turning and loading coming out of turns, but it's a FINE track car, especially in the rain, you can smoke everybody as they clench their buttcheeks in hydroplane. The TT is a fine car, no need to swap to GT2, the issue with both is weight, the damn race car prototypes whip both because of downforce and weight, so those are the two things to work on. In reality, a modded TT is a good PCA DE/club racing platform but seriously less fun than full race cars like a Radical SR8 or prototypes but as a dual purpose car the moded TT holds its own. As you can see, I thought about it, the GT2 is an awesome platform, thought about it, still am, damn it!!!

I drag race in my y-fronts..

But seriously take out some weight. There are so many ways to get at least 350 or so out of it.

Hee-hee...knew it! I want one bad. It doesn't rain much out here, so AWD isn't super important. Still, the TTs are much more affordable than the 2s...I guess it'd be good to have both to compare, eh?
