Power steering pulley play on 01 tt

I was checking for a noise at the back of the car, I took off the belt and checked all the pulleys, I noticed that the power steering pulley has a litlle play in it. Could one of you guys do me a big favor and check the play of your pulley. I suspect there should be NO play at all. Thanks for the help, Mike

Hey guys I need your help, if any of you have the serpantine belt off of your turbo motor, could you check your PS pump pulley for ant play. Or if one of you kind souls can remove your air cleaner and just slip off the belt over the pump pulley I would appreciate it. I am thinking there should be NO play in this pulley. Thanks Mike

While helping Luke on another thread found this one. Went to remove my belt and I got no play at all. Completely solid back and forth....My car is close to 50.000 miles.

No they are separate parts. I cannot confirm the noise is coming from there but it is a possibility...You need the pump and the o-ring #15 between the reservoir and the pump. Remember to order the right pump because GT2, tiptronic and TT are different pumps. I think the good number (if you got a six speed) is 99631404001 but seems to be replaced by 99731404000. Very expensive part but I saw some on Ebay...May be worth to take a look....

Mike, if you have the GT2 clutch slave conversion done, I think you can use the GT2 pump.

gt2 pump is the same as the tip pump. no coupler for the slave assist. no need to get either unless its a steal. replace it with oem tt manual pump and remove the coupler and plug the reservoir lines if giing gt2 slave setup

Well I see the factory has the new 997 part number for the pump and it is expensive, BUT I went to pelican and apparently LUK, a OEM part maker has the 99631404001 pump brand new, and its a lot cheaper. Would there be any problem installing this pump as it seems to be identical to the original 01 turbo pump
thanks Mike

I saw some of those pumps "Luk" on Ebay. I am the type of person who would like to give it a try ;-) Let us know if you are installing one and if it is working properly!

Yes, this is a new unit from Luk, Power Steering Pump/Turbo. So no core charge of course and will operate no differently than another brand. Luk is an OE supplier and we've had excellent results from their products.
