Hooked on Driving at Laguna Seca

Tomorrow I'm taking the turbo to Laguna Seca for a "Hooked on Driving" track day! This will be my first track day with the Porsche and also the first time on a real road circuit other than doing some parade laps at the same track on my bike. I'll be sure to post up some videos tomorrow evening. Hopefully none of them involve 360s.

Sounds like fun! I still have yet to drive it. I want to do it soon though. You're going to have a blast.

Yea, I loved it! There were some awesome cars out there too. I passed a guy in a 599 twice, though I'm pretty sure with a better driver, it would've been a different situation. Also met someone there from this site but didn't catch his username.

I'm hoping to get in tomorrow as a stand by; there were a few no-shows today so who knows.

Here are some random pics I took between sessions.

I've never seen an exhaust quite like this until today.

I'm uploading a video to youtube of one of the sessions and will post it later. It's a pretty big file, so it's going to take a while.

Some great looking cars. Glad your getting out to enjoy it. Really dumbfounded on why the exhaust is like that though.

Yea, I don't know. I've never seen one like it and yesterday I saw two. The upper class of HOD is a SCCA spec class, maybe that has something to do with it. Actually, now that I think about it , it was a 90db day so maybe that's what it's all about. Good ol' California. They still sounded pretty loud though.

Here is one of the videos I took. Without checking all the laps, I think the best I managed was 1:50 flat. Barely behind Randy Pobst in a '12 Focus ST but 7 seconds ahead of Jeremy Clarckson in a '04 NSX.

The white M3 I wind up behind was one of the instructors in their personal car.

To beat the tracks noise meter, it directs the sound away from the meter so you do not go over. Go over the limit several times and you will be pulled off the track and not able to go out again. There is a person sitting in a booth between corner 4 & 5 with a sound meter that just wants to get you.

I was wondering about that after I asked the question, now I know. Thank you for clarifying

Huh thanks for clearing that up. I didn't put two and two together yesterday. Yesterday it was between 5 and 6 so I guess it does move.

Here's one more video. Started off doing passing drills for 2 laps then it was go at your own pace. Once that happened, we left that 997TT in the dust.
