I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember the EVO car trapping above 140 mph at one of the shootouts, no? And from what I remember it wasn't even a good launch.

Michael, I remember the same. 140 MPH trap speed is representative of a whole lot of horsepower. The launch has everything to do with ET, but very little to do with trap speed. That's one reason trap speed is a great indicator of engine power on the big black dyno (drag strip).

Chad has hinted twice that he expects his car to trap 150+ MPH. Once by saying so and once by talking about installing a parachute, which is only required by NHRA at 150+ MPH.

There is a whole world of difference between 140 MPH and 150 MPH in trap speeds.

I believe Chad can achieve both 140 and 150 MPH in his 996 TT .. it's possible. But you have to run numbers before you've run them if you follow my drift.

I also understand that Porsche 996 TT and drag racing isn't everyone's idea of a good time. And yet, especially in the USA, the performance evaluation of a car necessarily involves a quarter mile comparison.

One thing about drag racing is that it is a standard that everyone can relate their own car to. Sure ETs can vary wildly with suspension setup, rubber used and driver skill. But trap speeds are immune to all those factors.

buddy, the 3.16-1's work really well. You would also need to change second. We changed all six gears, added all steel syncro's and installed an oil cooler. Almost everything was coated by HPC.

To give you a comparison the CGT uses a 3.19-1 for first gear.

Because as you say above in America the quarter mile is a frequent test of a cars acceleration. I am just as curious as anyone as to what my car may now run. However after the first trip to the drags I doubt I will be back because I would rather be on a roadcourse. Now when I do go to the drags what things can I do to get the best time? Tire pressure, tires (MPSC's?), etc...

Thanks in advance!

Buddy,

I understand. To me a Porsche is all about circuit times rather than the drag strip, but I wanted to see what my stock 996 TT would do for interest's sake. I've only taken it out once but it was worth going.

It irks me when people get all elitist about drag racing. It's a blast as I'm sure you know .. just because you enjoy ciorcuit racing doesn't mean you can't enjoy drag racing and vice versa.

Now on to my tips, I'll post a new thread and link it here.

CJV, will your car ever be out of fantasy land and actually running in the real world? Since the existence of this board you have talked, and talked, and talked, why not talk when you actually have something to back it up?

I'm not doubting you, I know you are spending the national budget of a small third world country on your car, but don't you think you should have something to show for it by now?

It's the stock 1.9 litre four banger, but I did change to platinum plugs. And gave it a good wash.

Hey that's a little harsh considering the wealth of new and improved modifications that Chad has given to the 996 Turbo world, good things take time and I am sure that KA will be the ultimate 996 Turbo that anyone here would envy.

I look forward to seeing the end result be it next week, next year or whenever.

Hey Kenny,

I should get you to take my car down to EC and see what times we can get out of it, I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to the quarter mile.
