Gear issue on track..lwfw too lightweight?
I am havingissues with 2nd to 3rd gear changes and 4th back to 3rd so up and downshifting since changing 3rd gear to GT Guards Transmission straightercut wider. I have also gone to a lighter LWFW setup and am now wondering if thecombination of this is my issue. I track the car heavily and now have to reallymatch and blip throttles to get gears. Trying to go from 2nd to 3rdyou can be locked out totally, where you have to press the clutch in and outand blip the throttle to get 3rd gear. I have even tried changing to a Numericracing shifter and cables...hoping, but no difference. Nice shifter, but nodifference.
Thinking itis an inertia issue, not enough rotating mass.?!
Ideas?
Sorry to hear. few things. Is the new lwfw a whole kit? Is it fully disengaging? If so it sound as if it is a syncro issue. not the teeth but the 3 tabs that locate the syncro to the slider. when they are not wide enough you will get locked out as you say. I really need to draw this out to explain it unless you are familiar with the syncro box. Bad news is it will nost likely be coming apart.

Pulled box apart. Synchro was hard up against the dog teeth on 3rd. Had to pry it off. Closer examination and measure I find that the cone is a different tapper to factory. Also the new 3rd gear with cone had symmetrical teeth where as the factory had asymmetrical teeth. You can see on the cone where it was grabbing. There was 0.2mm difference between them.
Solution was to press the original factory cone off 3rd gear and put it onto the new GT gear. All measures ok now. Box is going back together with all new synchros...fingers crossed.
Thought I'd come back and post what I found so the thread has some meaning. Pulled box apart. Synchro was hard up against the dog teeth on 3rd. Had to pry it off. No it's not warranty just a learning curve for me. The replacement gear came with new cone as one, but was defective or incorrect. I was offered compensation for this but to be honest I don't care about any of that more that I am on the right path to being able to hit the track again.
