Hey guys, I need some help...
Happy thanksgiving!
I was driving the car on the highway and under load all of sudden lots of white smoke from rear and coolant low indicator. Pulled over, water all over engine bay and bottom. Had dumped all of the coolant out. Towed it home thinking it was the water pump. To diagnose, I put distilled water in the coolant reservoir and without even starting the car it was dumping water from the front of the engine (toward the front of the car not the back) nowhere near the water pump. Looked around and can't see any hoses back there except for the metal water return lines. I will take a picture and post but to be specific, the leak is fast and is toward the front left of the engine right before it mates to the tranny. Any clues?
Thanks,
H

Yup its the hose right by the alternator. Usually that one is the first too go so 2 choices you have. JB Weld it make sure you do it right and let it sit for 24 hours or get all your fittings welded you will need to take your motor down for the welding.
Thanks for the super fast reply! I just took a look down there and still can't see where it's coming from. Here is a video of it after adding some water:
By the clutch. I don't think it's the same problem you had. I looked up your prior posts and noticed that yours was toward the BACK of the car by the alternator. Mine is toward the front of the car right behind the tranny. Thanks for checking.
I can't see anything back there. I think the motor has to come out.

Will do. Big bummer today though. Anyone know of good indy shops in the LA area? I live in the bay area but this happened while visiting family for the break. Luckily it didn't happen on the 5...
lousy deal for a holiday. gl w it.
Hey guys,
I found it! It's the fitting BEHIND the alternator. I can barely see it but I felt around down there and was able to verify that it is dislodged from the housing. Now how to get to it... I'm guessing alternator and intake pipes have to come out??
Thanks again,
H

if you had one fail, you will have other in the future, better take the engine out and do them all, search the forum for coolant fittings, there are plenty of threads on this, you are just one other unlucky guy. GT3s have the same problem.
Thanks for the all the help guys. Here's the culprit (attached):
I used the following threads for help in removing the alternator and diagnosing the problem, for whoever else has this misfortune:

Any specific JB weld to use on this? I can't drop the motor right now but it will come out for injectors soon so I'll have them welded then.
thanks,
H

Hi. i just had the same problem.
if i were you i'd wait and do it right. meaning take the engine out and fix all 7. weld them and since the age of the car predicts this fail, change all hoses, water pump, radiator tank, ext. its going to be costly, but the bright side is, you didn't get hurt and your engine is still good. if it failed in the cold season, its time to fix em...
