I am SOOOOO frustrated. 8 months I brought car (a 996TT) to Shop A to have transmission and CEL fixed. Trans was fixed, but CEL needed to go to Shop B. Shop B worked on it extensively, but ultimately, car got to a point where it wouldn't even run anymore. Shop A & B advise that I need a new ECU. I agree to pay for it. Shop A takes programming equipment and new ECU to Shop B to get car up and running. Try as they might, they cannot get car to recognize ECU (i.e., car is totally inop). Car is towed back to Shop A so they can keep trying. That's where we stand. I don't know much more than that.

I want my car back so I can either sell it or enjoy it. This sucks. At this point, i don't even think it makes sense to ask for ideas because I don't have enough detail to give you, but if you want to throw things out there, please do!

Trip to the dealer might be in order? If for no other reason to accurately diagnose the problem as whoever you have doing it now apparently doesn't know quite what they are doing.

D,

The guys at both Shops A & B are some of the most respected Porsche techs around. They do know their stuff, though this one seems to be escaping them...

As a seasoned Software Developer I can tell you it's always something minor. Like a period or a semi-colon. Hope your shops get to a moment of eureka in the near future!

Yeah I would also recommend contacting Tony at EPL and having him help you with the ECU. He can code the Immobilizer which is probably whats causing the car to be inoperable, get a tune while you are at it. ALso note that ECU failures are rare and there are problems that can mask themselves as ECU failures AND vice versa.

EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID! we were convinced the injector drivers were toast on my dme and after a new dme was installed the problem persisted.

tony was always willing to help with the encoding and tuning so it wasnt a total loss

i agree with what they said, i had a fried ecu once, the car would start idle for 4 seconds and then turn off, after norrowing it down , we figured the ecu was toast, i sent it to Todd knighton from protomotive, and he switched everything over , immolizer codes etc, and car was tip top after that .
